Geodesigner,

Congratulations. I am late as well. I order mine yesterday. I should have mine in 60 days. Looks great. MB Oyster Gray Ink?

Regards,

David

Great, hope you'll like it! It's a very interesting pen :)

And yes, that's Oyster! A bit light coming from the F nib. Next inking I'll use either the 90th anniversary Permanent Grey or Maruzen Athena Hatobanezu. I feel greys suit this pen. Cheers!

geodesigner,

The ink looked GREAT. Pictures are outstanding. I wish I could get my MB Oyster out of a F nib to write that dark. I saw Reed Thoughts use MB Lavender Purple...I was going with that with mine or MB Swan Illusion. MB Permanent Grey costs $100 in the US. I hope you enjoy your new pen.

Regards,

David

PS: I bought a few bottles at an outlet boutique, there is one at around 15 mins from my home...

They were like $17 each. Try that before trying amazon or ebay

Reed_Thoughts...good one : )

What actually is a nib cleaner?

It's a device for cleaning your nib.

Sorry, could not resist. 😁

It reminds me of an oven mit you put on your nib to clean the surface. A luxury and not a necessity - like most things fountain pen related.

Ok, I've seen reference to it before so I just wondered. Is it made of some special material? I just use a tissue.

Thanks Zaddick.

Le Petit Prince Aviator Solitaire LeGrand. I'm not sure when I'll actually get this - my local reseller is trying to order it from the factory with an OB nib to avoid having to wait for it to come all the way to Australia before going back to Germany for a nib exchange.

At long last, my Unicef LeGrand 146 with OB nib arrived! It only took 8 weeks to swap out the medium nib with the OB nib. But it writes like a dream! And a few days ago, I received a couple more bottles of Unicef Blue and Swan Illusion. Both are wonderful inks!

@Zaddic, I knew someone would be making a smart alec comment about that, hahaha, Yes it is a luxury more than a necessity, but I was feeling LUXURIOUS, so I bought it together with the notebook. I hope you don't get offended with that, You're one of persons whose opinions I respect in the forum.

@Boris-Ludwig, don't worry I also use a soft generic tissue to clean my nibs (not Kleenex), I was just curious about those things (yes they do look like oven mits) and since I was ordering a notebook, I just added 2 boxes of the darn stuff. I recently cleaned my pens and have only inked one, so I haven't gotten to use it yet. I'll bring some if ever I get to meet you in Sydney.

Wow would love to see the pics when you get the the pen, and an OB nib at that!

I ordered 3 weeks ago a 149 in an EF. I wanted a New In Box. Everything I buy in the US is like new but used. EF is a work pen. That is coming from Hamburg. It should go out next week. I wanted to do a test run to see how customs would be because I never buy anything overseas. Since it took so long, LCDC did not ask for payment yet, and Zaddick calmed my nerves, I ordered a Heritage 1912 also in an EF yesterday. Again a work pen. When that is ready to ship from Hamburg and if everything goes ok I'll do a 149 in a B.That will be for journaling and notes. The EF's are for forms. If for some reason I don't like the B...I'll do a grind. I'll always need EF's for writing in confined spaces. The 149 is my favorite pen. The weight is right. It's big enough that I can change hand position, Plus it is a classic, elegant pen that will never go out of style.

So I bought EF's for work pens.

Thanks for asking.

David

Hi David,

I also want to calm your nerves, hoping that my experiences will be able to do that. I have ordered many pens from overseas and customs have not charge me an import duty even once, so I encourage you to buy with confidence.

There will certainly be pictures :D. I was going to go for OBB but decided against it because I wanted something different and I've already got a O3B in my 149 and recently got an OBB on a Lamy 2000.

Hey AndyLogan - no offense meant. Most everything we buy and talk about here is an unnecessary luxury. It's a low cost item and if it makes you happy then it's money well spent.

I recently got a barely used William Shakespeare WE from a friend. It's quite beautiful.

A lot of attention to detail.

I like the theatre-shaped finial.

A truly fine EF nib, super precise. A very pleasant surprise. Feels like a japanese pen, not unlike a good Nakaya or Sailor fine nib.
As much as I adore the Bard, find the pen is beautiful and the nib fantastic, I didn't quite click with it, and will probably sell it soon. Enjoying it right now, though.
Cheers!

Edit: I have to add they are beautiful little pens, every bit as special as their bigger cousins. They illicit a similar pleasure to those small but beautifully tied dry flies. Attention to detail is just that bit more special on account of their size.

Posted they balance perfectly, in fact the only two pens I feel like I want to post.
