You so needed and deserved a new one. You need a break from the irritants at work and in family. So yes, yes and yes you needed and deserved it. My Cognac salutes yours (and one other person I know owns one @Runnin_Ute).

LOL, thanks, I needed that!

I think @Tom Kellie said he had one of these special edition cognacs with the italic nib as well. (That was the first I had heard of it.) So, yay, we’re in the club!

~ @DilettanteG:

The Pelikan Classic M200 Cognac on my writing desk is an EF.

It was a birthday gift from my friend Jinjie, purchased in Hong Kong, presented in Shenzhen.

The nib is exceptional, with sharp, smooth writing on quality paper.

******

At present there are two M200/205 Pelikans with IB nibs on my writing desk:

•  a Pastel Blue

•  a Rose Quartz

Within the next 60 days or less there is likely to be a 3rd IB M200 joining them.

******

The Pelikan IB nibs with a Fritz Schimpf Italic Grind rank at the top of all fountain pens on my writing desk for their crisp writing and ultra-smooth ink flow.

My only italic nib is on the Pelikan Cafe Creme. I had to buy it with either an EF or F nib. So I ordered the italic nib. Mine writes more like a stub.

I like the idea of a Pelikan Cognac club. We’d meet every five years. A decanter of Cognac would be present as we sat by a fireplace.  We’d sip our cognac, comparing nibs. Then the writing on lots of different paper would begin. We’d oo and ah over each other’s Cognac pen. Then, our time would be up. We’d burn our writing papers in the fireplace, and bid each other adieu.

@Tom Kellie you are like a ninja, appearing to post soon after you are mentioned in a Pelikan thread. Thus, you are the President of the Pelikan Cognac Club.

@DilettanteG sometimes I type a post, touch submit reply, and it doesn’t. I refresh, then usually my text is there to try to submit again. It usually does at that point.

Ooooohhh Pretty!

I now have all 20 of the M200 demonstrators (skipped the reissues, though I now realize the Cognac is the same color as the Amber.) I can't say I regret any of them. These really are just wonderful little pens!

I might also have to pick up the new M600 with an italic grind from Fritz Schimpf based on your recommendation. I do love a custom nib!

Had an absolute bear of a day yesterday, so I was very happy to come home to my new M200 Cognac with an italic nib. This is my most expensive M200 to date, but @Misfit was right it is a lovely pen! It does look like the same bind (binde?) material as my M200 Amber, but the gold trimmed cap is definitely an improvement. Plus, the cap on my Amber is stained. So, I needed a new one, right? Right!

So, here's what it looks like:

Ooooohhh, nice.

The Ancient Copper shades nicely in the italic nib. A pleasant pen and ink combination.

Mr. Dilettante is a keeper. And he managed to keep it a secret from you, I’m guessing. Hurray for Mr. D.

He is, indeed. What a nice present! I have got one of those pens myself and I love that it really looks like amber.

What Misfit said! That's a beautiful pen. And those Pelikan IB nibs are wonderful.

Yay, I got a Valentine's Day gift from Mr. Dilettante: a M800 Brown Renaissance with an IB nib. Lovely writer!

@DilettanteG, how do you like the Waterman Havanna? On my screen, the color looks almost a little red, but I don’t remember that from the last time I used it years ago. Is it really a more neutral brown?

Beautiful M800 Renaissance Brown. That's one of the nicest Special Editions and such a great nib. Congratulations on this lovely gift.

Ooh, well-done him! (Also, does he by any chance happen to have a sister who is still single…? 😉)

And very nice for you - the M800 in ‘Renaissance Brown’ is one of the pens on my ‘when I win the lottery’ list.

I have always found that I perceive its colour to lean towards red.

I have found that it looks less red when used in very-wet pens than it does from my pens with finer nibs, but it is not as ‘neutral’ a shade of brown as are the other brown inks that I have used (Parker Penman Mocha, Diamine Chocolate Brown, and Pelikan Edelstein Smoky Quartz).

That said, our colour perception is a very individual thing, and I know that other FPN members just perceive it to be ‘brown’.

Its ‘behaviour’ - feathering, ease of clean-up, etc - is just as good in my experience as that of Waterman ‘Florida Blue’/‘Serenity Blue’.
