Recently my brother gifted me an M730, black barrel with sterling silver cap and piston knob, a 1990’s release, I believe.  The nib is Fine, and a lovely writer, with a slightly stubbish line. I don’t have a photo I can post as of yet, however, I’ve attached a link to the Appelboom Pelikan Collectible archive for anyone interested in taking a look at this elegant instrument until I can get some pictures done.

My M101N Red Tortoise with an IB nib showed up this morning. Yay! The duotone IB nib doesn't look quite as good as the yellow gold vintage look nib, but it writes like a dream. Plus it came with a cool gift box and ink. I'm really enjoying getting new pens for a change. Usually, with these special editions, I'm scrounging for whatever I can source.

Another bird has joined the flock here in the high country of the southern Rockies !

The M205 Amethyst has been refitted with a hand-ground cursive italic and filled with Noodler's La Reine Mauve.

I thought it appropriate to situate the pen on a bed of amethyst quartz crystals with golden rutile inclusions to welcome it to the flock.

I have often seen people on FPN remark that their Pelikans have tended to breed in their ownership, but it’s only really started to occur in my house in the last nine months or so… :glare:

In that time, the following have appeared chez moi:

large.IMG_3411.jpeg.d6771a5258b61477bb7dada2c4868779.jpeg

M800 ‘M’ in green-black, from 1990/91 (‘W.-Germany’ on the cap band, two-chick 18k nib with ‘PF’ & French ‘Eagle’s head’ assay stamps);

a set of 400 ‘F’ pen in green-black with script (not logo) nib, & 450 pencil, 0.9mm lead, in green-black, from 1954.

Detail shot:

And, just this week, I have bought:

large.IMG_20240122_112139669_HDR.jpeg.d381e8b7022668b6e19e63b02fe610b8.jpeg

M400 ‘M’ in Brown Tortoiseshell.

It only looks this brown in direct sunlight (a very rare commodity in England at this time of year!).

The non-stripy bits are the colour of high-cocoa-content dark chocolate. Nom nom nom!

Beautiful stripes!

Nib detail (later-1980s nibs have a larger gap between the logo & the grade-letter).

For obvious reasons, after cleaning this pen & lubricating its piston, I have inked it with Pelikan Edelstein Smoky Quartz.

Thank you.

by the way a friend said to me that the M640 seems ready to give birth (for its belly), so I am hoping for the arrival of a M300 😂.

  • 2 weeks later...

Added a M101N Bright Red with an italic Broad nib. Seems a little more  orange-red than bright red. I guess that tracks as Pelikan's 4001 Brilliant Red ink is an insipid orange pink. What's up with that? At least it writes beautifully.

@Carrau Thanks! I do love those factory IB nibs. I think these are actually meant for an M400 or an M600 since they’re duotone. The M101N is supposed be monotone and have a vintage inspired imprint, but I’d rather have them write with some line variation than be technically correct. I was pretty happy to find them. I bought all but one of my M101Ns new from Pen Market on eBay, who I think still has a few left. They were quite willing to come down on their listed price a little, too. Hey, every little bit helps. No affiliation, just bought a few pens from them off of eBay. Here’s their store:

And indeed a M300 is arrived, here it is between the M640 and a M1000:

@alfedop Nice! It looks like a family photo.

Still working on completing my M200/M205 demonstrator collection. I just added the M205 Duo Green Highlighter with a BB nib. I'm not sure why Japan has all this new old stock, but I've been happy to get it.

I still like this red pen.

To Austrian school children from the 1970s/1980s, Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Red is THE red ink. Austrian teachers used it to correct homework and tests. You could say it´s the other side of Pelikan 4001 Royal Blue, which is what we used to write everything they later corrected. And it was a huge no go for pupils to use Brilliant Red. 😆

As a correction ink, that makes a lot of sense. It’s light enough that you can still see through it and it pops on the page almost as much as a highlighter ink. I see that I’m just using it for the wrong thing.

I’m sure the Bright Red will grow on me. I do really love everything about the size and shape of the M101N. And being a redhead, the orangey-red does color coordinate with my hair. I need to think of it as an accent color. Or a perfect lipstick shade. I think it looks better with the monotone gold nib, but those Pelikan IB nibs are just such a pleasure to use.

The M101N Blue-Gray is supposed to arrive this morning. Maybe I’ll try 4001 Royal Blue in it to see how it looks against the 4001 Brilliant Red. I do really like how the 4001 and the Edelstein inks write.✍️

Thanks, I’m getting close to done. The M200 Anthracite and the M205 Clear Demonstrator are in the mail. I’m not going to bother with the reissues, or getting both the Amber and the Cognac as they look pretty identical. I’ve had the M200 Amber, Green, Blue, and Red Demonstrators since they came out in 2002. They’ve always been such a pleasure to use and you can see the ink level! The only real downside to the demonstrators is the risk of staining. With so many colors, hopefully I can avoid it by using matching pens and inks.

The M20x demonstrators (or the Lamy Al Star) are my pens to go when I want to use something simple and efficient. They are great little pens, I think also that they could sell much better if their price was not constantly increasing.

That's an excellent point. I think the list price in the US is $280 now, judging by the M200 Cafe Creme? It's pretty steep for a plastic pen with a steel nib. Though I do quite like everything about the pen, especially the piston filler.

So, I got the M200 Anthracite Demonstrator Special Edition from 2002 in the mail. Supposedly, it had never been inked. It did look quite mint. I immediately ruined that by inking it up with Jacques Herbin Shogun. My plan was to use these M20X for my shimmering ink collection,  but even with an IB nib the feed seems to be clogging and restricting the flow. So, I guess those inks will have to get segregated to my easy to disassemble Pilot Parallels.

Any way here's the M200 Anthracite:
