Sorry for the unedited image, this one was the only one available from this computer. Anyway... it just works so well, everything in balance, feeling like an object designed with intent, whole instead of just pieces thrown together.

The teardrop clip which is the same as in earlier Pelikans (100, 100N, Rappen) just feels so classic. I do like the beak clip but that one... feels more simple, unadorned and authentic.

Pelikan 500NN Frankenpelikan.jpg

It looks quite sleek.

I wasn't planning on getting another Pelikan, but this one was in such excellent condition I couldn't resist. KF nib.

Finally got around to take a few pictures of that Pelikan M700 Toledo from the early 1990s I purchased some time ago. By now, I have filled it several times and that BB nib writes like a dream.

Finalmente consegui tirar algumas fotos daquele Pelikan M700 Toledo do início dos anos 90 que comprei há algum tempo. Até agora, eu preenchi várias vezes e essa ponta de BB escreve como um sonho.

@carola Stunning!

I keep drooling over the M700 and M900 designs.  Then get sticker shock.

Can you give us a writing sample with that BB nib?

Of course. (The changing colour is due to the lighting. It´s night here. Except the first word - different pen, different ink.)

Thanks, Carola.  I don't have any BB nibs and it's good to also know what ink you used in the pen (4001 Brilliant Black was the only ink that curbed the gusher of an IM nib on one of my M200s.

Oh, that is just lovely... very nice handwriting! That pen is on my grail pen list, I love the size and the styling (it is a Toledo, duh, but then it has the classic 100 & 100N style two trim rings on the cap, and that gorgeous frosted clip and crown...). Having that in BB, well, the only thing I could say is: "Oh my..." :D

mana, that was exactly my train of thought. What I really would have loved to own is a Pelikan 100N Toledo from the 1930s, but as I am not prepared to spend something like € 10,000 on a fountain pen, I had to find some sort of compromise. So I went for the model that has a lot in common with the 100N, design-, size- and nibwise. I was tempted by the M900 models, but in the end decided I didn´t want to pay a lot more for a bigger pen with less similarity to the vintage models. The somewhat flexible and stubby nib from the early 1990s vs. the nail on the current models made the decision used vs. new model fairly easy. As I got this pen ready to write, complete with the gorgeous wooden box, the outer box and the certificate, I really couldn´t have asked for more. On the certificate, there is even the stamp of the stationery shop where the pen was originally purchased plus the name and city of residence of the first owner.

So, when I saw that pen for sale, what I said wasn´t "Oh my..." but rather "Oh, mine!" 😁

A M200 Golden Beryl F which I got a good deal on from Pen Hero. I'm already using the ink in an older M200 green marble and I'm very satisfied with that combo so unlikely to use the GB.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

"Another joins the flock, another joins the flock..."

Yesterday was pretty crazy auctions wise. One of the regional online auction sites had four vintage Pelikan sales ending within a few hours of each other (from different sellers, to boot). There was a mint 100N with a sticker, a heart hole nib 100 (later cap though), a mint M700 Toledo, and an IBIS 130.  Was aiming at the first two but got outbid out of my comfort zone... so I turned to ebay instead and found something that piqued my interest enough to pull the trigger even though it was a bit more than what I have usually paid for such, a Pelikan 400 Tortoise with one of those lovely earlier style 14k BB-nibs. That will make it my fifth vintage Pelikan with a BB-nib (Yeah, I know...) :D

Will be a while since I will get it as the merchant seems to ship things in batches...

That's a good-looking pen. I like your photography, too.

What a beautiful pre-1964 400NN! Congrats! In your place I also wouldn’t have resisted.

I have a 1959 black-striped 400NN with a springy KF nib, so I know what it’s all about!

🙂

This is serious business, @mana and a stunningly beautiful pen! From the photo, I can date it to 1952/53, because of the pre 54 nib and the post 51 cap tube (with “PELIKAN 400” on the ring). The BB grade nibs are hard to find indeed! Congrats and lots of handwriting pleasure!

🙂

And here’s my recent “catch”: a 1951/52 400 with a very flexible OF nib. A pen I could not resist!
