Completely agree - I have a real soft spot for the pre 97 M150. Great little workhorse pens, and almost without exception fantastic writers. I just wish I could find a source of replacement gaskets as I now have two needing attention and the place I managed to get them in the past is no longer responding to email.

Do you mean the piston seals?

What is this money pit obsession hole I have fallen into?

My other passion

Yes, the stupid little beige 'non replaceable' ones. Which of course are replaceable, if you can get them. Which you can't (at the moment!). I'm currently experimenting with an alternative solution!

Nothing exclusive, but this cute little M150/481 flew in this weekend, along with a never inked W-Germany M150 and its matching ballpoint in a leather case (not pictured).

It never ceases to amaze me how well these steel-nibed little birds write. They write better than some of my other modern pens with gold nibs.

@Bikerchick, @mizgeorge, I had never heard of the M150, and now I am the proud owner of two MC120s:

I really like the smaller Pelikans.

Better still, that bottom one looks very like the fantastic 1.0 nib, which is amongst my absolute favourites, and is what makes it worth always keeping a lookout for MC120s. Great find :)

  • 3 weeks later...

I always was tempted to get early Pelikan M800 from 1987 with 14K nib for my collection and test the glorified Pelikan 14 karat nib.  I succeed to acquire one from Germany ebay site in quite poor condition- with cracked upper sleeve and broken piston mechanics. It was not an issue for me as I like small restoration works as part of hobby. There is some photo. I marked welded place on barrel.

Such a lovely OB nib! I think the barrel can be changed by service.

Thank you. Actually welded barrel is not an problem for me. In reality welded place is almost invisible and after polishing smooth as rest part.

OB nib really works great, however I didn't noticed significant differences vs modern M800 nibs.

The most recent acquisition - M20 silvexa, OB nib. Vere expressive, buttery smooth, nice shading.

And the piston mechanism is easy to remove for greasing. Frankly, the cap is too tight (I don't know how to solve it), but not a disaster.

However, overall impression is very good.

I been wanting to pick up one of these for a while now. However, I seen the price of these fluctuate all over the map. Not sure what a "decent" price for these are.

The problem with the cap is a well known issue and was discussed not too long ago at the german board.
It seems the inner plastic cap hardens over the years. There was one person at the german board using a spare part cap and glycerine to soften the plastic and had some success.

But I wouldn't recomend any chemical experiments if you want to keep the pen for the next five decades and you don't know what chemicals do with all the plastic parts. Some others asked if this is how the pens were made and the cap never fully closed the pens.

I have a blue M20 with a F nib and can confirm, the nib is really good.

The pens seem to be forgotten by most collectors and can be really cheap. The maximum I would pay for an M20 Silvexa is the price for a pelikan 400 (nn) in black/green from the 50/60s. Usually they are a bit cheaper. Sometimes you can find them very on german ebay.de, but be aware of pens with hairline cracks at the section. They are not that common, but when the plastic gets older it can crack easier, especially when someone pushed the nib too hard.

I had a promotion (nothing really special, just normal progression) and decided to get a M101n Tortoise o celebrate it and complete the mini-collection.

Congrats. The m101n Green Tortoise is my favorite Pelikan. I am only missing the lizard to complete the set.

Maybe some day I can find it below $500.

Nice add and great collection of M101N!

I have 4 of them (bright red I gifted couple years ago) and expecting that Pelikan will introduce new one in y2021.

Thanks.

I lucked out with the Lizard a month or so ago, through Facebook ($375 shipped from Europe). So, it is possible.

This Tortoise was the only one that I didn't get cheap (but, still below $500).

Thanks. The Bright red is a beautiful one too, maybe you'll get another one some day?

I'm  also looking forward for a new one this year.

This is an interesting pen. I was never attracted to it because I thought it was too small. Then, last year I found the Blue dirty cheap ($190 shipped and brand new) and decided give it a try! Big mistake! 🤣

Somehow, they fit perfectly my hands, and led me to explore the vintage ones too...
