I actually picked up this grail pen back in May, but I'm just getting around to updating my pen collection catalog. I thought you guys might enjoy these pictures.

The Pelikan M620 San Francisco with an OB Mottishawed to a custom stub: (My most expensive pen and the hardest to track down of the entire M620 collection.)

Really nice collection. Gorgeous pens. Tell me again why you want that silly plain-looking violet-white M600? :)

Why do any of us on here want anything? Easy: it's "Ooh... shiny!"

I'll admit that most of the Cities set don't interest me, other than Piccadily Circus and maybe Athens -- but both are way above my price point. But the M600s? The pink and white one was too expensive for me at the time, and seemed a bit heavy when I looked at it initially (now, of course the price for the ones still out there makes it completely unobtainum). The White transparent? Somehow it didn't grab me, although it was a better weight (or else I got more used to larger/heavier pens in the interim. The Turquoise and White? Nice, but again too expensive. But then the Violet and White came out and it really caught my attention. And it was a case of "Well, even more expensive than the Turquoise... but...." and I started watching listings on eBay. And then got extremely lucky, right at a time when I wanted to go screaming into the night.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

I guess I have my moments when I realize that I spent HOW MUCH :yikes: on twelve pens that are pretty much identical except for being made of different colored and patterned plastic. Well, there's some nib variety, too. But I like them. I really, really like them. And I had fun hunting them down. And they're a joy to write with as well as being dependable little work horses.

But yes, I acknowledge that I can't really justify how many resources I've put into this very nerdy, but beloved, hobby.

Update: Taking inventory, I just realized that I don't own a single unmodified Pelikan EF nib, just a 14kt EF Mottishawed into a Spensarian. So, maybe I do need a M600 White and Violet....oh for the love of god please stop me! :wallbash:

I admire your passion to chase down that complete set. I too was fascinated by the city series, but I got very satisfied after a Piazza Navona. To be honest, I wasnt impressed by the factory M nib on that pen. It wrote much narrower than M nib now, but not as wet, and no feedback at all. My M605 white transparent has a factory F nib, which writes much better.

I am tempted by that White Violet, because I love my White Transparent so much, I want to get a companion for it. I kept telling myself I dont use a lot of purple inks...

Hello,

I'm not sure how on-topic this message is, here's the short story. Hope you don't mind.

Few weeks ago I came across a beautiful small Pelikan100, unfortunately in a condition beyond repair. The barrel was broken across the ink window and moving parts were literally cemented in dried ink. Yet, no parts missing, and thanks to the exact replacement barrel engineered & made by FPN member kawuska upon original drafts & specs - up to 10µm precision! - and a bit of extra work and patience (soaking, cleaning, taking apart, hand-lapping, polishing, putting back together, replacing the cork piston and sealing), it sprang back to life, at the age of 86. According to materials and features I dated the pen back to 1934. In fact, it happened to be the nicest writing pen I've ever come across, with a most versatile flex nib. Hope you'll enjoy few pictures:

A bit of work, but also a bit of good luck! Thanks for reading this.

Hi stoen,

What a LOVELY pen, and a classic (and classy) addition to your flock!

This is definitely on topic here, but would also make great discussion in one of the vintage threads.

I hope to find something like that some day to add to my collection.

I am sure it was quite rewarding to go through so much trouble and do so much work, and then be able to hold in your hand and enjoy the results of your efforts.

Hi, there

Thanks for the kind feed-back.

This pen looks classic and classy indeed, and behaves beyond my expectations - a true time-capsule from the golden ages of handwriting and industrial design. When treated properly, its virtually timeless.

Yet, it had been just one step away from disappearing into my cousins garbage can, and could have easily ended up there, hadnt I come across, accidentally.

I guess this thin line of fate is what justifies my efforts in restoring it.

(:

@LyaT Thanks! I'm sorry you factory medium didn't work out. If you don't want to switch the nib permanently , you can always just unscrew the nib assembly and replace it with any other m600 to see if you like the pen otherwise. I've had a lot of these nibs modified and it's amazing what a specialist can do. I'd love to see one of those all white pens in person. I know photos just don't do my White Tortoise set justice.

@Stoen I love that you resurrected such a beautiful pen. It would have been a shame to let that vintage flex go to waste.

@Dnic Wow, that is minty fresh NOS!

And Cult Pens just sent me a 10% off coupon for Valentine's day. (Heart10 is the coupon code.) But I've already got so many pens! Maybe if I sell some of the pens that don't make it into the rotation... And now I'm rationalizing.

<snip ... So, maybe I do need a M600 White and Violet....oh for the love of god please stop me! :wallbash:

You know you want it--just go and get it!

Or maybe pens are like magic wands--you don't choose them, they choose you. :)
