What Pen Are You Waiting For 2019

Against my better judgment (as if!), I bought more pens again, and now on its way to me are:

  • a Pelikan M815 with metal-striped and a factory F nib – the price was too good at 50% off, and the heft of this model seems more fitting for a pen of its form factor, which also hopefully justifies the broader line it leaves with a Fine nib (or at least I'll probably pretend that is the case)
  • a Pelikan M205 Olivine with F nib in the gift set with the matching ink – my fiancée doesn't mind a slightly broader line
  • a Pelikan M200 Smoky Quartz with F nib in the gift set with the matching ink – which is for myself, but if the F nib proves unusable for my purposes, I could always order a replacement EF nib for about €16

Of course, if EF nibs were available as options for the above at the same asking prices, I would have elected to have the nominally narrower nibs instead, but always bearing in mind that I've been warned Pelikan's EF nibs are inconsistent and often disappointingly broad anyway.

I also ordered:

  • a Sailor Promenade (in black -_- , which unfortunately is the only colour configurable) with an Extra Fine nib – the cheapest way for me to get ahold of Sailor 1911 gold EF nib to play with; and
  • a PenBBS 309-43SF-3 with 'Cloud' acrylic barrel and of course no bloody choice of nib other than the 0.5mm

Still waiting for four Aurora pens to arrive...

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

After my terrific bargains at the beginning of the year (yes, that well known auction site has still a few secrets to yeild!), I'm waiting for my no number, lever fill, BCHR Onoto The Pen (c.1925) and, my surprise find, a woodgrain eyedropper Waterman's Ideal 12 (c.1908-1917, judging by the patent numbers).

Both are having a spot of work done and I'm looking forward to welcoming them back.

Now that I've worked out how to post photos, I'll do a few show-and-tell style reviews!

Lamy Safari (blue), extra fine nib with a piston converter and a bottle of Diamine Registers Ink for journal writing.

Thought I might give that a try.

Is it actually Aluminum? All of the descriptions say acrylic but they look like nicely anodized aluminum... The 323 is one of my favorite PenBBS pens not sure if I like the threads moved to the end of the section or not...

Yes, they are aluminum. There was a mistake in the Etsy listing. The picture was right but description wrong. I bought mine from Penbbs' Chinese store and should have it in two days. I'm really curious about the weight because I love how light the acrylic versions are but no specs have been given for the new aluminum one.

Thanks.... I might just have to order one. Hope the section is not too slippery.

They don't seem to be selling fast, so if you can wait I'll let you know about the slipperiness in two days. It's also my concern because I get sweaty hands easily. Polished metal sections are no go for me, so I'm hoping the 323s matte finish has decent grip.

Looking forward to those reviews, WhiteStar.

I was waiting for a Nemosine Singularity in Coral to arrive Saturday. But it arrived today. It’s quite pretty in the light.

The acrylic Nemosine Singularities are great! I have the Blue and Black Marble versions.

Now that they are being discontinued, I hope what replaces them has all the flaws fixed. I still end up unscrewing the barrel on mine instead of the cap about half the time.

Have you tried putting silicon grease on the cap threading, so that unscrewing the cap becomes the 'path of least resistance' compared to unscrewing the section from the barrel?

Yeah, but then I get silicone grease on my fingers because it stays on the section threads. What's worked best so far is just screwing the barrel on tightly and not tightly screwing on the cap.

LizEF left a message on a review of a Singularity that Nemosine would have an aluminum version of the Singularity.
