Mine writes slightly wetter on Asa Gao compared to other pens, but it really does bring out the colour

Asa Gao is a gorgeous deep color from this wet stub. The reason I’m wondering about a drier ink is to slow the flow and promote shading. My Omas Paragon is even wetter. After several inks, including an Iroshizuku, I filled it with Pelikan 4001 Konigsbleu. The flow slowed. [it is still wet, just not as much.] It remained smooth. There was shading, and a fill lasted more than a couple of days. Regardless, I will love writing with this HS Lava Bronze Age oversized.

conincidentally, my hs lava stub nib just arrived this morning...

does yours have a little hard start in the beginning? I loaded it with a kobe ink, so I am not sure whats the problem...

I took a magnifying glass to the nib, and it seems to be fine... might be that it needs a few flushes to get it flowing...

Actually, I'm interested to know if Platinum will release a 2019 edition Plaisir - or did the Bali Citrus scare off too many customers?

Waiting. Difficult. The problem seems to be between my ears. I have been tutoring a high school student in physics for a couple of months and have been saving up that money for a nice pen. I thought my plan is to save up for a new Pineider pen to purchase this summer. I have a wonderful LE La Grande Bellezza with a F hyperflex nib. So The plan was to see what pens Pineider is offering at that time and choose my favorite (Pineider is coming out with new designs fairly frequently, hence the unknown concerning specific pen). The problem is that as the tutoring funds are slowing accumulating, I am drawn to various less expensive desirable pens that I could buy now a have before summertime. Ugh. Save or buy? So here I am with money sitting in my pen fund reading about other people getting their pens....

Personally, I would stop tempting myself by reading threads like this and save. The pen will probably mean more to you because you had to save and wait to get it. Also, if you already know what you like, go for it instead of experimenting with a lot of unknown but cheaper pens. Save those cheaper pens for times when you really have an itch to buy a pen but don't have much in the wallet. Those are just my two cents and what I wished someone had told me before buying 150+ pens and not using a lot of them haha.

Only you can decide whether a single 'better' pen (but don't let yourself pine for or subscribe to the idea of a 'grail' pen, any more than that of the 'perfect' spouse) or several/many 'good' pens will satisfy you more, and give you more pleasure. Having spent easily over ten grand on pens, I know a $1000 pen (which is nice to have) doesn't satisfy me more than having, say, five of my Platinum #3776 pens, and one $200 pen doesn't satisfy me more than having six $30–$40 pens. On the other hand, I don't want my (eventual) collection to only consists of thirty $30-$40 pens if I were to spend a grand on the hobby.

So start with the pen that you want to use now and tomorrow, not the one pen for which you can see yourself forsaking all else. As you've already alluded, there will always be more pen models put on the market by manufacturers; some will be things you don't yet know you want, as they aren't on your cognitive horizon. I don't believe you'll achieve nirvana and close the door on wants and desires either way you choose.

Edit:

Eh, I have a bad habit of forgetting about footnotes for which I've left markers in the text. Platinum #3776 Century pen are not limited to the black, Chartres Blue (with gold or chrome trim) or Bourgogne modoels, or even the new Chenonceau White and Laurel Green; there are kanazawa-haku, (new) celluloid and briar body models that legitimately qualify as '#3776 Century' models. and they aren't all US$80 each, in case you're wondering about the comparison of five Platinum #3776 Century pens versus one $1000 pen.

Mine had a minuscule skip when I began writing, and occasionally it skipped during a sentence. I flushed it several times. But, I’m not sure it is a need for flushing. My stub has serious corners. I have cursive italics with no more edges than this “stub.” In other words, it is not an obstruction in the ink channel. It is the position of the nib on the paper. As I slow and more carefully position the nib, the skipping subsides. As I become more accustomed to this nib, the minimal skipping will cease.

Congratulations on your new HS. I love mine.

Says: I’ve loaded my HS with Monteverde Ocean Noir, and I’ve grown more accustomed to this stub nib. I wrote a line or two and there are no skips. This is a beautiful writer.

Agree! I figured that was the case with mine too. Slowly getting used to it. However in case you dont have it too, you should try the pineider grande Bellezza stub.... i think it is much easier to use for a beginner to stubs, and wider line variation but i find the HS nib to be smoother once you get used to it..

This lovely pen finally arrived today! It's a mint Parker 45 Custom made in the UK. It still had a tiny bit of dried ink under the nib from dib testing at the factory! Even without ink, the nib slides like butter across the page and has that classic vintage UK Parker softness I really enjoy. This is the first vintage pen I've acquired that is so pristine I'm afraid to ink it haha. For the time being, I'll probably just put the nib into one of my other 45s and let this pen keep its minty-ness.

TruthPil and A Smug Dil, I appreciate your kind advice. Your comments are so helpful. I am settled now on a simple course. The school ter is not over, and I do not know how many more tutoring sessions there will be. So I will simple continue to save that money. When the tutoring comes to an end, then, and not before, I will know my budget. There is no sense in trying to predict it. Whatever the final budget is, there will be a pen available at that price that will be a good reminder of my time tutoring this student and a welcome addition to my set of pens. Basically, I am now set to enjoy the both the journey and the destination. Thanks again!

Come back to us then. I am sure we can point you in the direction of the right pen/ pens then!

There is a pen at every pricepoint unless you earn a really ridiculous amount per session

I am still waiting for my PenBBS 355 to show up but last night I ordered a PenBBS 267 in Amber is a Cat finish. Wish I had gotten it in the 323 model when it was available there, but such is life.

The only pen I have in the mail is a Moonman M-2. I just had to try one for $10. My next purchase will be on my next trip up to Fahrney, most likely, and will probably be a Sailor 1911 variant
