Hi,

Here's a short video that shows how to recycle/convert old Pilot Hi-techpoint rollerballs into an eternal fountain pen with easily obtainable inexpensive Lamy looking feed/nibs.

Are you meant to yank out the feed every time to refill?

Yep. This also works with the "disposable" Varsity fountain pens. They last until they leak from wear!

Nah with my old V-pens I just take off the mushroom end of barrel, then drill a small hole in the wall that's down about an inch inside. Inject ink into the barrel chamber then reseal the drilled hole with a suitable tiny screw. Might not even need resealing the hole - the mushroom plug seals decently & I tried adding o-ring so it never leaked from that rear chamber, but ink gets trapped up there though (maybe removing that whole wall could avoid that, but I've never tried). But pressing the plug in might pressure the chamber enough to make it burp though.

No, the author's instruction is to use the "syringe vacuum method" of filling the pen with ink. I've seen that video -- it's actually a fairly clever method of refilling a disposable pen without yanking or drilling anything:
