All My Shimmer Inks....

Inspired by the hubbub over my bottle of PenBBS#111 Shanghai at the recent Pelikan Hub, I did a quick comparison of all the shimmering inks I have. As always, I used my handy J. Herbin glass dip pen on a Rhodia DotpadI The "B" in the margin indicates that I have a whole bottle of that ink.

Scans don't really capture the beauty of these inks, but I thought some might like see these.

My thoughts: I really love the Colorverse shimmer inks. "Cat" (from Schrodinger/Cat) is one of my absolute favorites. And the Hayabusa and Felicette shimmers rock! And I had forgotten how gorgeous Emerald of Chivor is. But in the end, Shanghai just kills it. It is soo cool, not just on the page, but in the bottle as well. Get a sample and shake it up to see what I mean!

That’s a nice comparison, thank you.

I really like some of those ink base colours eg Colorverse Brane, but I really dislike shimmer in inks. Someone suggested filtering the ink to get rid of the glittery stuff but I’m too lazy lol.

I've liked some of the shimmer inks I've tried, but for me it's more an issue of whether I like the base color before I get a sample. And I have some of the original formula of Rouge Hematite, which has the big flakes in it, rather than the dust (that ink gets limited use, even though I actually like it -- surprisingly -- to a cheap Chinese pen with a fude nib).

Other shimmer inks I've tried in an older Pelikan M100 with a 1 mm stub nib -- it's a pen that I can remove the nib unit to flush thoroughly, if necessary, and the stub nib shows inks like that off to good advantage.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

OOO Thank you!!!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).
