Another Pocket Pen From Moonman

Moonman N2 , use the default delike nib unit ( moonma's own stamping on the nib ), this one to me seems far more practical this time, it said 11cm capped, and 13.5cm posted, with a 9mm section.

and in case you wonder why is it N2, cause there is also an N1 announced, basically thr OHTO Tasch / Muji Pocket with a Delike nib unit and having a barrel ( if we can call that short part one ) slightly modded with a weighted on mid section.

So with the M100, this is the 2nd and 3rd pen recently released from them.

Honestly not liking the design on the N2 but the N1 in a silver nib finish rather than gold might look very sleek

I've been surprised at how many pens Moonman has been releasing the past couple weeks.

 

I really like the look of the N2, but like with the M100 am totally turned off by all the metal furnishing. It's my understanding that Chinese prefer front heavy pens (which the metal components of the section cause) because they like a lot of weight toward the paper for control. I'm more of the "Samurai school" of fountain pens, as light and perfectly balanced as possible.

 

I'm curious to see some comparisons of the N1 against Muji Pocket Pen and Ohto Tasche. Unfortunately the N1 uses Moonman's proprietary cartridges which would severely limit color options when on the road. The inability to take a converter is also a minus.

Well, don't hold much , I had both the Muji and the Ohto , I think they are well over-rated , the Schmidt nib is not actually better than average Chinese nib say Hero and the are pretty thin and lightly build , pretty much against their intention as a pocket pen ( that might had to take some abuse ) and all of them post insecure, the cap just rattle on the posted position clearly the single grip ring ( also on the N1 ) is not enough. Actually many of these type of long section / extreme short barrel pocket pen had this same problem I've seen similar pens of much dearer price bracket and from some really big name too.

 

The only good things I would say regarding them are that they are short, slim and working. The Muji exactly the same length as the short side of an A6 journal and if tha's your size for a pocket journal, it can easily pair.

The benefit of the Muji and Ohto pens using Schmidt nib units is that it expands the nib options to EF, F, M, and B nibs, purchased separately of course.

 

One thing that could make the N1 superior to the pens it copies is the issue of how well the cartridge fits in the barrel. Several reviews have noted that both the Muji and Ohto pocket pens are so narrow in diameter that removing the barrel also pulls out the cartridge, which can cause a mess if done quickly.

 

At any rate, the Moonman 80 Mini and Wancai seem to be perfect pocket pens, so the N1 seems kind of unnecessary.
