As a collector of Lamy Safari I have the "base" colors and most of the special colors buying the 'full set" of the colors I really like. Suffice it to say I have a few Lamy products. That said, I have suffered some colors. Rolling my eyes and ponying up anyway. My first thought when this news came out was "hmmm getting a bit greedy on the collectors and all pastels no less. There are quite a few people out there that collect these as they're fun and not too expensive. But three in one year and all pastels? I'll prooooooibly do it but with a bad taste in my mouth. Here is a suggestion from a loyal fan, don't take advantage of your loyal followers they can only be pushed so far. Consider a re-release of Savanna Green, Terracotta Orange and some other subdued light-ish brown color in the same finish. Something to balance the pastels.

Am I the only one hyped about these colors? :D After 3 consecutive years of matte Safaris, I'm actually glad to be getting the shiny LE's back. Definitely will be picking up the blue one.

Hm.

I'm one of those "girly girls" who likes pastels, but I'm not really feeling these. Don't know why, because the shades are fine, but...

These just don't work for me. I can almost smell paint with them from how shiny they are. If they'd been matte, I probably would have liked them.

Lamy also can't do an ink matchup with them because any inks so pale would be unreadable on the page, so the AL-Star LE must be carrying that load again. If that's Bronze, that might make the LE ink worth buying, but if it's something like hot pink again, I'll definitely pass, just like I did this past year. There were already plenty of great hot pinks out there. Who needed another one?

I was in a local B&N store yesterday, and took another look at this year's Vibrant Pink al-Star (they have a display at the checkout counter, but AFAIK all the pens are mediums). Still don't like the color enough to buy one; love the ink -- but the pen? Meh.... Although in it's defense it isn't light green. Or Petrol....

Hi Flip,

I like the shiny pens, too; of course, my favorite pen is the matte L2K... ...so I must suffer from a deep-seated psychosis that my parents are no doubt responsible for. :D

Be well... or as close to it as you can get. :)

Hi Toddar68, et al,

I think they're paying homage to the Safari through the Studio... the latter has just been released in said colors as a L.E., (I own and rather like the olive edition).

I think they did it that way because if they had re-released the Safari in those colors it would have made it a lot easier for the unscrupulous types among us to pass them off to the ill-informed and unsuspecting as the far more valuable first editions from 1980.

That said, I hear you... the Victorian Rose Scalia, the olive/terracotta Studios and three pastel Safaris... all within around a 6-month period is kinda pushing the L.E. concept.

Be well... and if you can't be well, then be like the rest of us. ;) Enjoy life. :)

Bit like stores that always have some sort of Sale going on. :D L.E. stands for 'Lots of Experiments'.

Oh how absolutely tempting. If I wasn't traveling, I would definitely pick up the blue and green one. I can't wait to see actual pictures!

just noticed Appelboom and Fontoplumo from the Netherlands have the limited edition safaris up for pre-order for a May release. Still have seen no pics of the finial to see if it is colour matched. Don't think I will be pre-ordering , with a choice of 3, I think there'll be plenty around come release time.

As the ballpoints even have rubber parts in pen color I think we can be quite sure the finials will have too.

I was very underwhelmed with "vibrant pink" anodizing -- it's very much not vibrant and not very pink. I hoped at least it would be a more vivid magenta in person, but no, it's somewhat faded looking.

I like the colors and would get 1-2 of those Safaris, but I'm in the "matte Safari is best Safari" camp. The glossy ones look terrible to me in person, and the matte ones feel nice in hand.

...well, that seals the deal for me.

2019 Aions on the way from Endless Pens.

I ride a recumbent, I play go, I use Macintosh so of course I use a fountain pen.
