Pen Show, Tell, Display - Nakaya

I only have two, but in my imagination I have about twelve. And I say only, but I know I'm very lucky to have those two - I always loved ao-tamenuri, but didn't buy till they had been discontinued for a while and thus were hard to get. I can't seem to upload pictures here (don't have a flicker or imgur account) but trust me, they're lovely. I have the desk pen, with ao-tamenuri trumpet stand, and the 17mm portable cigar.

Come on out to the Ohio Pen Show in a few weeks. I expect to have a dozen or so Nakayas for sale and I know a dealer who is expecting to bring some.

Even if you aren’t looking for Nakayas, it’s a fun and friendly show.

Enjoyed the show, and loved what was left on your table. I chickened out this time. There will come a time when I won't. I look forward to that time. Thank you.

Newbie here, and saving up for a Nakaya for latter part of 2019. Fingers crossed.

I hope you guys don't mind me asking: since I'm not in the US or Japan, what do you think is the better approach to buying a Nakaya: getting it online (nibs.com or FPN classifieds) or waiting to travel to Japan to buy it in person?

I don't mind getting a second hand. Decapod is high on my wish list. :)

i think Singapore is probably the closest place to get one, if you are based in the south east asian region.

There is also the option of buying directly from Nakaya. That offers the most selection and control and honestly, prices will all be about the same. Used will sometimes be less and as with any used purchase, ask first. Ask for pictures, details, what exactly is included. Ask if there are any problems or issues and make the answers part of the transaction record.

Kuo24, if your flag is accurate, fpnph and the palengke on fb occasionally have Nakaya. I'm not terribly active on either, but someone else who is may be able to help you out.

Personally, I've bought from Nibs, AB, Nagasawa (in person) and second hand -- they're all about the same. Buying in person in Japan is the cheapest generally (though it depends on the fluctuations of currency) but it's not a big difference. I've heard AB has the best service, but I haven't had issues with any other dealer.

Thank you very much for this. A few Nakayas popped up last year in the Palengke, but my funds weren't ready back then. :)

Eyeing Nibs right now so I can also be precise with the nib size (as I prefer EEF), and I don't mind the months-long wait anyway.

Hi All,

Is there significant difference between prices in Nibs and AB?

I think Nibs is more or less on par with the official website, but I don't see any prices for AB.

I have bought Nakayas from both nibs.com and from AB. AB doesn't quote prices on their website, or even show what is in stock. You have to email him and ask, which is sort of a pain. However, Tay is very responsive and his customer service is excellent.
