Lamy Nexx Question.

Is the shaped section of the Nexx any better than the Safari?

The Nexx looks rubberised & I wondered if this made any difference to comfort when writing long periods.

Yes, the Nexx is rubberised. It is also noticeably broader. Personally, I find it much easier to hold than the Safari, and definitely better for longer writing sessions. However, some regard the Nexx as a children's pen, but this is down to personal view of styling. I think it suits adults perfectly well. And, of course, it uses the same nibs as the Safari family and all other Lamys except the 2000

The section is covered by a semi-hard rubber. It can be scratched fairly easily, and it's easy to clean. It doesn't emit odors. The section is wider that that of my Al-Star, the edges are more rounded-off, less sharp. I prefer the section of the Nexx better, it's great for calligraphy exercises and long writing sessions.

Here some pictures I took when mine arrived (bought it used).

You were lucky to get a used Nexx.

Have you noticed that the engraving on Lamy Z50 nibs is not so bold or of a grayish colour? Or are they always black.

I saw a Nexx at a cheap price, which made me wonder why & then I couldn't see any nib markings.

Possibly obliterated by the camera's flash reflecting. It made me suspicious enough to move on.

Are there outright fake Nexx's floating around yet? After all a rubber coated section cant be that hard to produce.

I see that the Nexx uses the Z28 converter. How is this different from the Z27 for the Safari?

I was lucky. Thank goodness I was taking a look around ebay that day.

The wording on my Z50 nibs started dark gray, than the color faded or got corroded by the inks I guess, and mostly only the engraving remains.

I also saw on ebay a lower-end Lamy pen where the engraving on the nib was not visible. I didn't bother bidding. I haven't seen cloned Nexx yet but cloned Lamy nibs are a dime a dozen and they fit the Lamy feed too snugly, I need to get the rubber grip to pluck them out, and I don't want to do that every time I want to swap my everyday writing nib with my calligraphy nib.

We live in the age of smartphones, deleting a picture takes three seconds. If the seller couldn't bother, I feel justified to move on.

There are three Lamy converters, it's not like one comes with the Safari and one comes with the Nexx, neither the Safari nor the Nexx come with converters. The Z24 and Z28 have a red turning knob, only the Z28 is the updated version, it's said to be more sturdy. The Z24 and Z28 have the notches on the side that fit snugly into pens like the Safari, Al-Star and Nexx. The Z26 has a black turning knob and no notches. It still fits pens with the space for the notches, such as Safari, Al-Star, Nexx.

The Z28 has studs and a red back end. It is the updated version of Z24.

The Z27 has no studs and a black back end. It is the updated version of Z26.

The Z27 can be used in place of Z28 but not vice versa.

The default converter for Safari, Vista, Joy, Al-star, Nexx, Nexx M, abc is Z28 and the Z27 is for everything else.

Yes, both my Nexx are very comfortable. Even more so, now that osteoarthritis has started to affect my hands. The plural should tell you that I have liked these pens. Even though I do freely swap nibs on pens, as an academic and professional writer, I like having a fine and a medium inked in different colors. I write a LOT.

Of course, I am willing to also wear dark-colored Crocs simply because my feet hurt due to university teaching, on my feet, for about 16 hours a week. My doctor suggested them, and they make life so much easier. No distracting pain now!

Likewise with the Nexx pens. I write a lot more now that it doesn't hurt, and now that I don't tire so easily. This was true even prior to the arthritis. These are truly ergonomic pens. Oh, and my handwriting is clearer, too. That's a nice cherry on the ice cream.

I find that there are a lot of nay-sayers about the Nexx, who, strangely enough, have never tried one. Looks are enough to turn them off.

It is a discrete looking pen.

The clip with that silly looking ringtop kills it.

A case of different strokes for different folks.

The Nexx, is definitely a case of substance over style.

Glad it works for you and with the flexibility to nib swap, no reason to change.

I consider the Nexx grip much more comfortable than the Safari grip.
