The Lamy Unobtanium Ink (Petrol/dark Lilac) Crv

Diamine Winter Miracle is a doppleganger of Lamy Dark Lilac. Same sheen too. You might hold out for a little while though. News in Europe is that Lamy is about to release DL again.

That's great news!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I can’t wait !! I started writing with fountain pens long after the original release of dark lilac ink, and was suuuuper bummed. Maybe soon I’ll finally be able to get some. (I’ll have to save up my cash and buy 5 bottles 🤣)

I have a sample of winter miracle and while it is a nice ink, it isn't close enough for me. I will be buying another bottle of dark lilac (if rumors are true) and a bottle of winter miracle as well. I can never have too many purples.

Oh, the purples!  It's a love-hate relationship.  Many are magnificent swabbed, but then look dull and dark when used in an FP.  Or perhaps I'm not doing it right.  😉

But does that keep me from buying more purple inks? #@$% no!

I shall have to send you a letter in purple.

I wonder if trying them with broader nibs would help?

That's such practical sound advice.

I think I'm going to give the enabler advice @HalloweenHJB just buy more ink.  :P

Yes, please and thank you!

Oh, and I haven't forgotten that I owe you a bottle of purple ink.  Now that I've finished grading for the semester, I can get crackin' and send that out to you!

Truly.  That's generally what I try to do —with mixed success.  Breaking News:  I'm just weird, I guess.

I was fortunate to get a PIF from Amberlea, containing a sample of Lamy Petrol and Dark Lilac. Both are "unobtanium" inks, limited editions which sold out soon after release.

For those who have never experienced these inks but would like to search for alternatives and doppelgangers, I invite you to take part in this project. Here's how it works:

1) You sign up by contacting me via PM with your mailing address. This CRV is open worldwide, I will pay postage to faraway lands. There is a limit of 12 participants.

2) You will get a letter from me containing the following:

  • Two CRV sheets written with Lamy Dark Lilac ink
  • Two CRV sheets written with Lamy Petrol ink

The CRV sheets will be written on Tomoe River paper.

3) Write/draw/doodle whatever on one Dark Lilac sheet, and one Petrol sheet. Send those back to me. Keep the others for your own creative research. (I am asking you to pay postage for the return mail, so keep that in mind if you live outside the United States).

4) I will scan and post all received CRVs to this thread.

Ready? Go!

So that's why I sold my bottle of ink so fast. I put it at the retail price a year or so ago, and sold it instantly. I never cared much for it, it seemed to feather a lot in the pens I tried it. I didn't know this ink was so desired.

Which ink was this? The Petrol or the Dark Lilac?
