If you carry an ebonite pen with you your hand is constantly oiling and protecting the surface. Nikko ebonite is a very good material. The best ebonite you get at Schoeneberger Ebonite Manufaktur in Germany. Many Japanese companies buy their ebonite for sections there.

The black ebonite is mixed with pine carbon, which makes the material heavier and deep black for a good black polish. Namiki Tobacco pipes are made from this ebonite and most feeds are made from German Ebonite

I've been using Nikko ebonite for a few years now. Really great stuff. :)

Actually my favorite ebonite to work with.

How is this material called?

Re: color change caused by light.

Here is one of my Eboya pens that's been used quite a bit and shows a definite color fade between the part exposed to light and the part most often covered by the cap.

Yes I have this problem too on a Waterman Liason, (don't know where the ebonite was sourced for this)

At the Mitsukoshi pen event last week, I talked with Eboya about the fading, actually I asked if their ebonite will fade. They answered “yes, but polishing it will restore its color”.

My ebonite and HR pens remain my “dracula” pens. They never see daylight.

thank you Shawn

great to know such details! (Cumberland looks very close)

sometimes I wonder whether I should cover the lighter parts and leave the pen around so the section becomes lighter colour too! :)

Same pen, same discoloration. Well, a pen is a tool designed to used.

absolutely, I'm joking, it's lovely as it is and would never dare trying to polish it.

It's a great pen to use, the nib is wonderfully smooth.
