My First Pen Repair.

This Mont Blanc 252 belonged to my grand parents, and has the most lovely flexible nib. Unfortunately, the twist end cap was cracked, glued badly, then shattered beyond repair.

With the cap completely off, I decided to print my own replacement part. I took the measurements, printed and tweaked some prototypes and then I printed the final one. After sanding and a good polish, I can say I'm pretty happy. It is not perfect, both in terms of shape and color, but it is certainly usable again!

The top one has the replacement part. What do you think ?

Looks good , but could use more polishing .

+ the shape needs just a little tweaking ..

Otherwise excellent .. Without a direct comparison , would be very hard to tell .

Looks like there will be a lot of old broken pens fixed up...good enough, and that is all that counts. The nib works, the pen works well, and looks close. We Frankie all the time, soon we will Frankie less, with a little help from our friends with a 'modern' printer. :happyberet:

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

I wasn't aiming to make Frankie identical to the original, I made the cap a bit thicker to make it a more solid.

But,these printers are amazing. A specialist with dedicated hardware should be able to make very precize replicas for almost no cost.

The material is normal PLA, and my printer has a (theoretical ) resolution of 0.1mm and a nozzle of 0.4mm. For these kinds of things a finer nozzle would be better.
