Homage To Homer Thread

@adim,

I have seen the MB website. However I don't think they list all the variants of the special editions there. Take the Purdey fountain pen for example, there are three variants of that pen but the MB website lists/shows only one.

Yes, I know what you mean. There are pens limited to some continents only or some sort of other limitation. But in the case of Homer, I haven't seen anywhere the third variant. Maybe someone else could help; I know nothing about a third option. Not even Google or ebay helps.

The image was shared here before the thread was merged/deleted. Now that the series has been officially released, I was hoping that image could be shared again.

I got WE Homer yesterday at Dromgooles in Houston. What a nice pen. I opened the box late last night and got to view it a few minutes. Tonight is a really good inspection and look, a few photos and then fill it and see how it writes. I really can't wait. I like the shape and I truly like he size. Oh boy.......

I'm not sure if it's bad form to be posting to an old topic like this...I am clearly late to the Homer game! (..better late than never, or...?)

I was trying to decide between the new MB Egyptomania doue FP (with the hieroglyphics) and the Homer, but since I saw so few Homers left on offer, decided I'd go with that first.

Visually, I love the pen as much or more as the pre-purchase pictures I"d seen online.

But in the hand, this pen is even better.

I'd recently gotten a couple of 149s (1 with an OBB, and a fine mostly because it came with a stand). I love the OBB nib, but am still on the fence about how much I like writing with a 149 for extended periods of time. For me, there's something about the thickness plus the relative lightness that makes it less comfortable as an everyday writer.

But the Homer....just wow. In terms of writing and hand-feel, that extra little bit of weight coupled with the mid-pen bulge makes it rest perfectly into my grip.

I know the design of the pen doesn't work for everyone, but I find it's curves and dips mesmerizing. It's a fascinating blend of organic 3-D forms and more 2-D graphic qualities (the simplified lines and flattened shapes of the horse, the spear-clip, the image sketched into the nib, and even the key pattern). I also get why some might not like the recessed MB symbol embedded in the top of the cap, but for me that recess creates even more tactile and visual interest.

Am still hoping for an Egyptomania one of these days, but so glad I went for the Homer. I like the pen so much it doesn't even bother me that I had to get it in a medium nib.
