Homage To Homer Thread

Ladies and Gentlemen,

There is a rule in this forum that pictures of pens not yet officially released by Montblanc are not allowed. This year's Homage to Homer writer's edition pen has not yet been officially released on Montblanc's website or twitter feed.

Unfortunately, too many specifics and photos appeared in the "Homage to Homer" thread, so I had to remove the whole topic thread. While Saks Fifth Avenue has posted photos, and there are other photos and stock at boutiques and stores, they can't be posted on Fountain Pen Network until the official release.

Thank you.

I really don't know why Montblanc gives those images and organizes events if they don't want the pens leaked. It will happen for sure, every time. They should only do events and/or send official medias at the moment they want to announce the pen.

Likely explanation is to keep a "secret" so they can invite their high-end customers for sneak previews.

The unsavoury effect of making two classes of customer is probably why most other luxury brands don't do it, especially when the product (here the Writers Edition) is meant also for the second-tier customer.

Assuredly the reason they supplied the images of the pens to SFA was to sell them & having shipped the ink to a Seller in Germany, which announced it was "in stock" to be ordered, for sale.

And I thought this was what everyone was talking about .....

Sorry.

But the pen is already for sale at my boutique. Thought then it was ok. Since Hamburg is their headquarter flagship store

I guess we can buy it, we just can't see it.

Interesting approach.

My boutique in London told me that the pen’s release date is 1 July 2018 (i.e. Sunday), and that they would put one aside for me for purchase. They said nothing about being able to purchase/collect it earlier.

It seems that there is a three tier system in place here: VIP customers are invited to Montblanc events to see pens weeks or months before they are formally released; good (or just plain lucky) customers are able to see and purchase the pens in boutiques a few days before the official release date and everybody else must wait until the official release date.

Regardless of this, I suppose FPN shouldn't do anything to aggravate Richemont's legal team.

Who qualifies for the VIP status?

I fully agree with you, Tom

After all, Montblanc hasnt set any official classification/ categories for their range of customers. Much remains undefined (unclear?) and there seems to be something good about it, perhaps.

VIP? Non-VIP? I think the final answer is "The Montblanc marketing and customer relations departments move in mysterious ways."

After kicking around in my mind whether or not I ought to follow zaddick's advice and wade into the Internet in search of VIP status, something occurred to me.

As far as new releases from Montblanc at all levels, VIP status is understandably limited to those with an established track record of purchasing higher end models on a regular basis.

What's nice is that with regard to pre-owned Montblanc pens, whether recent models or older/vintage pens, anyone might be a VIP.

I'm in no hurry to see or purchase any new model, unless a Pekingese pen were to be offered. Yubi would expect a purchase with an M nib, to accommodate every type of writing.

If it's not possible to see a new model until the official release day, what of it? I don't at all feel ill-treated.

I'm grateful that Montblanc remains committed to designing, handcrafting and offering for purchase high quality fountain pens.

If they feel the need for embargoes on product announcements, that's a minor matter, hardly an inconvenience.

Or so sez I.

Anyway, as a non-VIP, I enjoy any photos, handwriting samples or text about nice pens which have been released and are currently enjoyed as daily writers by our FPN Montblanc Forum friends.

Honestly, that "team" can go blank themselves. They reinforce a not-so-subtle elitist tier system that smacks of privilege and pomposity. What a bunch of bull.
