Personalization?

Hello all!

Not new to fountain pens, but new to Montblanc (finally!).

I acquired a Meisterstuck 146 Le Grand, unused, but with the signature engraving on the cap that I can not decipher.

It is really very nicely done so I am wondering is it a certain edition or just a very neat personalization?

I trust you will know.

Thanks!

I dont recognize the signature. Looks cool though.

Maybe it reads: Wim Nauh.

Looks like a personalized cap. This was an iption, and probably still is when you buy new.

Nice! Much more stylish than usual block engraving, like your own Writer's Edition.

I chose my user name years ago - I have no links to BBS pens (other than owning one!)

I can't tell what it says but when I first saw it I thought "Liam Neeson" (which it obviously is not).

Thanks. I know of the option, but from what I see on Montblanc website, it has to be in roman letters, which this obviously is not. But maybe they have also an more exclusive option.

I see now that the seller has more pens with the same engraving, so maybe it was some company or some project or some anniversary thing where they acquired the pens and then engrave them.

Yes, I thought the same, would love to know what it says though.

I see now that the seller has more pens with the same engraving, so it probably wasn't someone's own pen. The seller said he doesn't know the origin of signature or what it says. Maybe it was some company or some project or some anniversary thing where they acquired the pens and then engrave them.

It would be cool to own Liam Neeson's pen :)

On 1930s-1950s pens, and maybe some '60s 1x pens, I find personalizations interesting. For some collectors, a personalization is a turn-off, and a less than desirable trait of the pen. I'm sure I've written this before, but I actually find them quite interesting, because someone cared enough to have a name/signature inscribed on their pen. How important to that person would that make the pen? Who are they, and what did they do?

Sure there are pens that were gifted with engravings, but who engraves a cap like this that doesn't intend to keep it?

Sanjinp, I think that is an interesting personalization. If you don't want to keep the cap, I'll trade you plain one for it.

Hard times don't last, but hard people do.

Thank a Veteran.

How about William Nash? As in Major General William Nash?

Just guessing...

Isouciant and stylish! Could even be Lmius Nanh. Probably not though.

Add lightness and simplicate.

I'm with you on personalization, for me it gives certain character to the pen and a unique history. But as you say, you want to know who are they and what did they do. Which is still a mystery with this one.

I would also think that anybody who engrave the cap like this intents to keep it, but the fact that there are more then one 146 (and apparently 145s) with the same engraving makes me think that they are gifts or promotional item.

I find it interesting as well so I might keep it, but will let you know if I decide otherwise. Also I just might buy another one and trade the cap with you so that I have both blank and with engraving.

Yes, Montblanc did offer the option of personalize your pens with your own signature. It was quite an effort for the retailers so they didn't force this very much and it was quite expensive comparing it with the normal engraving too. I don't know if they still offer it nowadays. But as you said the seller has more pens with this signature why don't you just ask him?!?

I did ask, and just got an answer. She says she doesn't know. It was her grandfathers and looks like he had at least five of them.
