Stipula Passaporto (2018) Review And Comparison With Moonman Wancai

This is an amazing comparison. Thank you. I've been disappointed with my passports for the money, but the Wancai that I switched out nibs for a 1.5 has been loads of fun.

The Wancai I ordered (because of this comparison!) comes with a 1.1mm stub nib that's supposed to fit the pen - given the large ink capacity, I'm thinking that's the way I'll roll with it, but thanks Amberlea for the further 'nudge' to give it a try...

Where did you get yours?

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

And can you eyedropper the Wancai?

It's designed to be an eyedropper, but can also take proprietary cartridges (some of which should come in the box).

Still on its way (hopefully arriving this week!) - but I ordered it from office_supplies_pen on eBay. I could have gotten it a smidgen cheaper from other suppliers, but have always found this eBay seller to be reliable.

The 1.1 stub that comes with the Wancai is the same generic stub that comes with the Hero 5028 calligraphy set and other OEM Chinese stub calligraphy pens. They fit in a ton of pens (#5 size) and usually write buttery smooth.

I pulled apart one of those $2.39 pens and put it in the Wancai.

Since I'm a natural blonde, I need to ask, does the little o ring go in the nib section? Because I think I need an o ring between the cartridge and the nipple.

Slightly off topic and before someone answers amberlea's question, if you want a pocket pen I highly recommend Jean-Pierre Lepine Indigo Classic Murano. Such an adorable pen and such a surprisingly good nib.

Love all, trust a few, do harm to none. Shakespeare

Yeah, and about ten times the price of the Wancai haha.

Can't resist posting a photo - my Moonman Wancai arrived Wednesday, and I finally got around to inking it this morning:

It came with a stub nib to swap in, but I haven't tried to do that yet - the original nib is great, though, and the feel of the pen (in my 'medium-sized' hands) is pretty good too... Thanks again, @honeybadgers, for the review!

Okay, those are cool.

Totally different price range.

Great review, Badge, and thanks. I've finally received my own, in Coke bottle green, and could not be happier. I was also tempted by Goulet's enthusiastic pimping of the Passaporto, and I'm glad I saw a few write ups on the Wancai here, and went with moonman, because I've been looking for another pocket pen (my Ohto Tasche has been serving me well but the cartridge-thing has been chafing at me) and the Wancai's ridiculously huge capacity as an eyedropper has me very pleased. I have syringe-refilled one of the cartridges that came with the Wancai and that worked fine, but it just isnt necessary because it's a great little eyedropper and I couldn't be happier with the pen overall.

Just add an F at the beginning, and any Art stinks.

Except your own.

I personally don't get the tasche. I've got three ohto pocket pens (one rook two tasches) and they all really, really suck. Awful writers, dry and skippy and scratchy no matter how much I adjust them. The rook is not a well designed pen, but I really do want to like the tasche, and even replacing the nib does no good for it.

Selling a boatload of restored, fairly rare, vintage Japanese gold nib pens, click here to see (more added as I finish restoring them)

isn't Ohto like the Bic of Japan?

They manifacture impressive ballpoints and rollerballs. Fountain pens just aren't their thing.

Thanks again, Honey Badger (and all of you who encouraged me). I've been having fun with the Wancai.

I ordered a clear Wancai which came with a 1.1 stub nib and it is a truly fun pen as I can just stick it into a pocket and take it anywhere. It's size amazes people who see me using it.

ALSO... after installing the stub nib, I set it aside while using some 3008's to test a bunch of ink samples I received. The Wancai kinda got lost in the shuffle for 4+ weeks before I noticed it lying there unused.

Upon removing the cap and writing on my test paper pad, it started immediately and wrote perfectly as though I had used it the day before.

I have ordered several more Wancai pens. They're just too good and too much fun to have only one.

Hi, can you point me to a supplier for the pen and the stub nib? I've looked for office_supplies_pen and can't seem to find them.....

OK, found them....... ;)

Good to hear - I bought mine from Bobby (office_supplies_pen), and it's great value. Unfortunately I filled it with a pretty uninspiring ink (Visconti Green, yuk!) - but will rectify that soon...
