Just came back from more than two weeks away and my century wrote on the first attempt. no evaporation problems with this pen.

I have known it to start even after almost 2 years with just a quick nib dip in water.

I have no experience with this particular model of Cross, but one of my all time favourite FP's is the lowly (cheap in price but not in performance) Cross Solo. I understand that the nib is gold plated steel and made in Japan by Namiki or Sailor.

It writes very smoothly and has not ever dried up even after a months non-use.

I read that Pilot made the nibs for the Solo.

A few more pics.

Pen is made in USA with cross written in cursive script on clip.

Thanks for posting the cursive inscription. I just found a Sterling Silver F/P with 14k gold nib in my collection that I have had for years but forgot. You photo jarred my feeble memory and I went back through my display cases and found it. BTW: I was told that cursive was originally used on early pens made in the U.S. with precious metal nibs. But, don't take my word on that.

Thanks for the reply. I have a few with cursive script, all US made, but have no idea what the significance is.
