Leaking Lamy

I just emailed Lamy. Let's see what they have to say.

I won't be in Fountain Pen Hospital's neighborhood until next week, but if neither of us has heard anything, I'll stop by the store to see if they'd be willing to look at a few specimens with me.

I checked all my pens, none has the struts. I also build a 3D model of the Safari from several specimen and schematics I extracted from a promo video recently. Now I know every millimeter of this pen.

I just don't see why counterfeit producers would put struts. It's extra cost and material for something that only costs more. I swear there is literally no difference between my Vista and Safari, and my Vista has no struts.

The struts are, more than likely, a structural element.

This really frustrates me. Not because of the money I spent, but because of how good this counterfeit is. Normally I can just look at a photo online and see it is a fake, but this pen was so well built that I couldn't see that it was a fake for the almost 9 months I used it.

I owned my blue Safari for over a year and a half believing it to be genuine, and I would still believe that if not for this thread.

The struts as structural elements might be necessary if cheaper plastics are in use. Just a guess.

It just is unbelievable. I can't believe that counterfeiters are putting this much effort into counterfeits. It's like they want to lose money or something.

I'm still not convinced that the struts are a tell-tale sign of counterfeiting.

I have more evidence if you would like it. PM if you want to find out, as I do not wish for counterfeiters to know.

A German owner reports of his 18 pens the "Sky Blue (2006), Green Cross (2013), Coral (2014) and Pink Dot (2009)" show these struts. Bought from local stationary shops in Germany.

Obviously Lamy did or does experiment with this design. It's not a characteristic for a fake. I was wrong. All-clear.

That's a relief! I was worried that counterfeits were becoming this good.
