I truly enjoyed the Hub and was thankful to all those that came out to participate in the first Knoxville, TN. Hub. We had a great time enjoying the company of like minded folks and sharing information and stories as if we were reconnecting with old friends. I'm looking forward to more meetings in the future.

No Pelikan Hub in Bangkok yet.

Not sure why are you angry?.. If you want one, make one. You only need 5 people to create a HUB.

FYI: OTTAWA's hub is giving a 6'/2 meter tall Giraffe away next year as a door prize.

Plan accordingly.

Bison. They're going to be giving away bison. Buffalo are a completely different type of critter....

Over the weekend one of the things I did was go to a reception for a friend getting a pretty major award. One of the things she does is play with fiber, so along with the gingerbread bat cookies I made for the reception (don't ask) she got a few gingerbread llama cookies.

I had had a discussion with someone a few days before, about whether or not the cookie cutters were *actually* alpacas (and the person claimed "I can tell the difference by the shape of the neck!" -- which, given that the head was facing forward on the cutter, I somewhat doubt...). So on Saturday, I was pleased to see that my friend had gotten one of the gingerbread llamas, and my husband and I were kinda laughing about what the other person had said. My friend said (quite sagely) "They're all camelids!"

For us, it was very simialer to a Pen Club meeting, except some participants brought food and drink, something not typically at Pen Club as we typically meet on Sunday afternoons for it at a Library in the metro area. The food was good, it was nice having some people there who can't make the Sunday meetings, and it being an evening made it a bit more social and less subject focused (other than Pelikan), as there was no agenda, or speaker at our location. Now, if we can only convince some f the other manufacturers to sponsor simialer events at different times of the year, this could all be quite fun. We actually talked about drafting a letter in Japanese to suggest this to Pilot as we figured they were the only other manufacturer with global distribution, interesting products and an interest in promoting their brand, but we would welcome any other manufacturer who wants to give us some literature and some nice gifts as a focus to meeting and talking about pens, paper and ink.

I am not sure exactly why you think you need some kind of Brand support (literature and of course, nice gifts) to grow your own pen community.

I have been organizing pen meets for the Toronto Pens & PInts crowd for years. I do believe that is one of the reasons the Toronto Hub demonstrates a strong healthy pen community. (we were the second largest Hub in the world)

You can start your own pen meets, and grow it. It is fun and you don't need the gifts to enjoy peoples company. This is one of the GREATEST things about the HUBS... communities are being created all over the world.

Apparently that was Disneyworld that had those!

Maybe Texas could give away rattlesnakes? Or Texas horned lizards?

I suppose Pittsburgh could give away Terrible Towels (because of course when I moved here I learned you HAVE to bleed black and gold...). Actually bought one a few years ago to use as a model for a cake I was doing for a Super Bowl party.

Of course, TTs are not only inexpensive (I paid around $5-6 US for mine in the grocery store at the time) but the proceeds go to a school for special-needs kids -- NOT to the team or the NFL....
