Pelikan 400 With 18 Ct Gunther Wagner Nib

Recommended Posts

What do you think about this pen?

One pen I aquired for my collection. And for the two other color variants I was asked.

The pen comes with an 18 carat nib with the inscription Günther Wagner, missing logo on the cap top and a caption at the end of the barrel with unusually large letters.

My pen has a friction fit nib.

You'll find all the pics and details on my website: https://www.pelikan-collectibles.com/en/Pelikan/Models/Revised-Piston-Fillers/400-Basis/index.html

Please let me know your thoughts!

Thanks!

Dominic

Hi Dominic!

Great find!!

I've never seen that nib, but I've seen the top cap with no markings or even with other companies markings, like SKF, Siemens...

Does it have any engravings at the end of the barrel?

18K nibs in the 50's usually where made for the French market, Have you acquired it in France?

Very interesting variation!!

Mfg,

Vasco

Best regards
Vasco

Could be a pen made for exporting into France where only 18K/750 can be called gold.

A very neat find. Never seen one like that before, that's for sure. Congrats.

Hi Dominic,

That is an interesting find and great that you have located a green, black and brown 400 with this nib, combined with a big barrel imprint and blanco cap top.

I am not sure whether the nib is early: I have a 400 with similar "Günther Wagner" nib but this nib is mounted in a screw-in nib unit. My pen has a normal barrel imprint and the usual cap top logo (with intact green colour). I found this pen in Italy.

If you are interested I can try to make a picture of the nib because the imprint is actually a bit different from what you show on your website (the word "GERMANY" on my nib is in small capitals and below the small engraved circle there is also a logo that appears to me like a gold content mark).

This is a picture of the nib with a blow up of the (gold content?) hallmark. The hallmark consists of three pictorials showing an eagle (it is not an eagle; see correction in reply #11 and "12 below), an airplane propeller and a latin capital letter E reversed:

Dominic, I think you are right.

I checked the nib again and the left mark appears to be a blurry capital "N" indeed (it has a blob of gold onto it). The middle mark is definitely a 2 blade propeller.

So the mark is identical to what you show on the nib above. This is a 40x magnification:

Very good macro picture! Would love to know who belongs to the E propeller N sign. From my investigations it's an importer mark. The second hallmark on my nib (an curculionidae) from France Bureau de la garanties Strasbourg.

  • 2 weeks later...

CT is the mark for Great Britain and Commonwealth for gold. So they could have made a stamping tool just for GB and Commonwealth.

K was more German. C I think was US.
