@Crofton99 Your post has been noted as a GREAT use of necroposting and we will use it as a good example. Thank you.

This is a Waterman C/F originally given to my father by his mother in law. I believe it was made in France. It's got a broad nib (labeled "L" in white paint on the underside of the feed) with a bad case of baby's bottom.

Wait, wait... I didn't see these originally, but now I'm in love. I'm glad you are keeping it in your family. If you ever want to send it to another home, let me know, that nib is lovely!

Also - I would love to see any photos of c/c pens with the original chalk marks. I have a couple with "C/C 295" and "C/C 298", but only one with a chalk mark "C/C 395". Also, here is a list of all the original advertisements that I have (either originals or copies). Please let me know if anyone has any others - or if you want a scan of any of the ones I have.

I have actual copies of 5 or 6 ads, and have copied others from ebay or other websites (including this one). In total I think I have about 30 or so images. Too many to post on a thread? Is there another place to post a large file with all the images?

Also - i just found the following ad from www.fountainpen.it. The ad is stated as being from a 195x unknown catalog. As can be seen in the upper right - it clearly show the c/c style pen/pencil set represented as a C/F. The description states that this is "The newest member of the Cartridge Filled family." I have examples of this same configuration with a C/C 295 chalk mark. So perhaps they labeled this as a C/C later on??

Here is the link to this ad.

And if you have not gone to this site - try it out. it has lots of Waterman Ads.

Use something like IMGUR. Then post the link here.

Ref the advert. Perhaps the C/F converter had not been conceived at that time. When it was they changed to CC...Cartridge Converter. Just a thought.

My favourite CFs include the Crocodile, Moire etc. (Jim, you might recognize the Croc as I got it from Andy and you possibly took this photo!)

I would like to post all the photos, but... I know enough about copywright issues to understand that it can be legally "problematic". I learned about copyright for text and images in my 30+ years scientific career (I have published over 175 scientific papers and book chapters). My understanding (and I am not a lawyer) is that you can use published articles and images for research or discussion purposes (send copies to friends or colleagues), but you cannot post them anywhere where they are generally available to the public.

So for magazine articles the copyright belongs to the magazine. For these I could reference the magazine, and maybe that would be enough. But what about photos posted on eBay, according to eBay, they are owned by eBay: "When providing us with content or posting content on eBay's sites, services, applications, and tools, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, sublicensable (through multiple tiers) right to exercise any and all copyright, trademark, publicity, and database rights you have in the content, in any media known now or in the future."

What do other folks do about these issues?

Perhaps someone with a premium account could post the file in the gallery so everyone could see it? I can email a copy if someone wants to do that.

I also need to think about the legality of posting images from other sites.

Always give credit to where you got it. You can also link directly to those images using the little tree button. The only problem is that when the website takes them down the images will be lost here too.

As for the website listed above, you can post those images here because they were shared under an open source license.

  • 2 months later...

This FP/Ballpoint set was my first Waterman. Remains one of my favorities. The photo doesn't do justice to the beauty of the blue lacquer

Agree that the blue is particularly nice. Reminds me of a fairly rare Parker 75 colour, Lapis.

It is a PITA that refills for the BP are so hard to find. The Must de Cartier refills work but can be hard to find and expensive when you find them. I've been meaning to research this for years - find a readily available refill, and create a template to cut the tube off at the right place and then use swaging tool to roll the edge out to match the correct refill. I planned to do it when I retired. not realizing that after retirement everything seems to take twice as long to accomplish.....

I made one for a Sapphire ballpoint from a Cross ballpoint refill -- cut it off below the plastic knob and used a tube flaring jig on the end.
