Forgot to mention the Sailor 1911S (H-EF) bought in Tokyo in November 2001. Inked this pen up a coupla weeks ago; still a joy to write with.

Pens from various trips. Stutgart should of course be Stuttgart.

My modern FP ownership started with seeing the Noodler's Ahab in an Adelaide pen shop.

I've left off the 3 $2.80 pens from Daiso in Brisbane.

I like to try and get a pen when I travel

So far:

A Nakaya from Tokyo

A Camelin from Shimla in India

A Retro 51 from Washington DC

A couple of Jinhuo's from Beijing

An Oldwin from Paris

Lamy Safari 'Ampelman' from Berlin

I am hoping to visit Turkey later this year, and might try and order a pen from Killik Studios (hope the spelling is right) who is a member here.

Edited to add a FPH special Retro 51 and a Sailor from Fountain Pen Hospital in NYC :)

  • 8 months later...

During my most recent extended international trips I have tried to buy 1) a NOS vintage fountain pen that was "indigenous" to the country from a nice pen shop and also 2) an old "needs work" pen from a local flea market, etc.

In Japan I went to Shosaikan (an amazing shop!) and picked up an unused 1960's era Pilot semi-hooded c/c pen that came with two empty dummy "double spare" cartridges and the special CON-W converter needed for the obsolete filling mechanism from that era of Pilot pens. Later in the trip, at the bottom of a shoebox in a second-hand shop I found a 1930s era Namiki-Pilot plunger filler (not eyedropper) with a flexible 14k nib. That's a refurb project for my retirement...

Just returned from Spain, where Julia Gusano (hers is another can't miss pen shop!) sold me a NOS Super T Model 60, which is a gold nib/30 micron gold plated cap/piston-filled Parker 51 copy made in Spain in the 50-60's. My flea market purchase this time was a beat-up Parker VS with clear feed, aluminum button collar and gold cap that was missing the pressure bar, sac and breather tube. However, the 14k nib with a bit of flex is in good shape, so it's another project pen that will keep my memories of the trip alive as I put it back in working order. Actually thought the feed was the later black version until it had spent a few minutes in the ultrasonic cleaner...
