Mb 346

A pen that came to me yesterday for restoration is this wonderfully rare 346. While there are many issues with the pen, I thought it might still be nice to document and share some of its characteristics since its not a common find. See pics below.

Indeed an unusual pen. How is the plating? I suspect that is the most common fault on 34x pens. It looks not too corroded from the photos.

The clip plating is completely gone, and the cap ring is not original :(

That is a pity, but I guess rectifiable. A pen that unusual merits the care.

Yes those are very much solvable problems. On the otherhqnd, the barrel crazing is essentially a death sentence.

It doesn't look good. If you think it's decay, don't keep it with your other pens. (Or anything celluloid)

It looks very localised - I wondered if it could be some (eg) glue that a previous owner had put in once, and it's just discoloured, or crazed? Wishful thinking. I'll guess we'll find out when you dismantle it.

Yes, it's a great pen. I've seen pictures of a 346 before, but never the real thing. I love the old 6 sized pens, they were really built for a life of work. I'm surprised there's not more of them still knocking around.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Good luck.

Maybe satabilize as far as possible, then add a binde to cover it? I'm interested how this rarity turns out.
