To be honest none of them

I have agree with this. I'm not really in the market for this pen, anyway, but I find myself disappointed with MB's design on a lot of these new releases.

One person's meat etc etc.

thanks

To be honest none of them but if I would have to buy one I think I would choose the special edition because I like red color and don't find something that could justify the price of the limited edition. It is one of the first time I prefer the special edition to a limited edition lol :) But I won't buy one of them. It is good for me because I won't be frustrated to not be able to buy it because too much expense this last days for computers: my iMac gave up the ghost few days after bought a new iPad Pro... the budget is not very good at the moment :)

And you are you interested to buy one of them? If yes, which one?

Hard to say. The longe i look at them the more I like them. Hehe. I handled the limited edition a few times. At first I thought meeeh but now its quite nice actually. I need to see the red pen in person. My bank account keeps telling me no. So lets see ;)

Next week is the official launch of the pen

Yes not really enthusiast to the pens of this year with Homer and James Dean. The PoA is nice but rococo style is not my personal cup of tea but the 888 seems really nice and good work. It is fine for me and my wallet :)

I was thinking of getting the red one as well because just like you, I like shiny red things!, The limited edition seems too bland, I don't really care much for nibs that snap back inside the barrel, Lord knows how best to clean such pens & I was thinking of having them serviced would definitely cost a pretty penny. I was admiring the cap for some reason but would like to get a more detailed picture of it. Also the big question is, does this pen even post? I post my pens, tried not too but I always post them.

Thanks for the pictures Cyrille, but if you do get to see the special edition IRL, please do share some more pictures up close. Again, Thank you.

I hope I will be able to go to my reseller shop next week because I has to take back my Miles Davis back from MB and I will take some photo of the 2 models I hope.

Ohhh, the Miles Davis also looks nice, I've just checked the pen at Appelboom, and found that the nib option for the James Dean comes in O3B? Does this mean that it has a number 9 nib? Also I was quite disturbed with the clip, from the pictures on the website it looks gray-ish, and looked like...PLASTICky? I know the photo isn't all that great on the site but could you confirm if the clip is made of metal?

Again looking forward to your pictures Cyrille.

For the James Dean I don't know yet because I don't see the pen in real so can't answer for the moment.

Its a #6 nib. My Montblanc Boutique told me though that a obbb is possible for a #6 if I want one.

That is interesting and would be a welcome break from tradition. I wonder if it is accurate information from the staff however. I hope for more confirmations.

If you want less blah, blah, blah and more pictures, follow me on Instagram!

Interested in the nib news. Pass on the pens. They look like one of those models we made as kids out of all the unused leftover parts from all the kits we’d made.

At bespoke price, sure. Otherwise, likely not.

Ah ok. Maybe thats the catch then. Hehe

You send the pen in. They take 5 months to create an estimate which is 1500-1600 usd. Been there, Done that. 😃 Tried to get myself an O3B for Dumas 149 nib. Even Axel had to take back his words that it can be done for a standard nib exchange.

Maybe it depends on who handles the request at MB at the reception of the pen because I had no problem to have my Blue Hour skeleton nib exchanged to an O3B and it was really quick (around 2 weeks I think).

For the James Dean on the Appelboom web page of the pen you can order it in O3B but maybe it is a mistake in the options of the pen because for example on La Couronne du Comte there is no option to buy an O3B.

The problem is that MB changes rules internally without being accountable in any way. Apparently, they now dont want to create O3B for any non-standard 149 if it was created before 2000.

I actually have changed to O3B on my Blue Hour Skeleton as well. Service center in US is ignorant but the push back in my case came from Hamburg on every single occasion.

I am thankful to Pravda and Tom for helping me reach Axel who did help out.

The O3B on the site is a mistake. It shows as an option on many other pens where the nib isnt offered.

Thank you so much for your kind comment.

I'm so pleased that Axel Nier was able to help you.

Writing with an OBBB nib is a great pleasure.

It's great that you're able to do so using such a magnificent pen!

I strongly suspect that the issue lies with the US boutiques. I've never had an issue with any of the nib exchanges I've done - even on very old model Writer's Editions - and I've never been quoted the outrageous prices people have often quoted here, nor have I experienced the terrible wait times. I have had them do things I never asked them to do, such as polishing out the scratches on one pen and re-plating the clip on another and all without any extra charge.
