Maybe you could fine something alike a radiator grill...

Would it be so surprising? The Gandhi insensitivity makes for a precedent.

What was the Gandhi insensitivity? I missed that.

Was the pen made of salt? Or have a machine gun motiff?

If Marilyn Monroe, why not Mr. Dean?

They both are certainly iconic, as was Grace Kelly, so they will be assuredly marketable, which is sorta the point, I imagine.

I'll start with saying that I haven't seen anything about the pen, and have no idea of what it will look like. And I'm not even asking. :D

For some reason I didn't quite get into the pen Montblanc made for Marilyn Monroe, even though I do like the 'muse' line (the Princess Grace in particular; what a beauty! If only it was a piston filler...). Number one culprit was the colour; to me a Marilyn pen would have been white, or maybe black or platinum blonde; but that red didn't quite say Marilyn to me (I know she has worn red, just... not in my mind).

Regarding the James Dean pen though, I will certainly hope to see some red in there; because to me James Dean is 'Rebel Without A Cause', and that red jacket immediately pops in my mind.

I was born long after both of them were gone, so these are certainly just cliches. Surely fans and people who know more of them have a larger amount of memories and references in mind for them.

I'll also agree with Tom on the joys of waiting, imagining, speculating... something our current lifestyle made us forget (for better or for worse).

Thank you for your thoughtful comment.

The Muse line wouldn't fit my writing desk very well, but I'd admire them whenever used by others.

However, the first time that I saw a Montblanc Rita Hayworth, I was bowled over.

The green guilloche is stunning, with a ring of diamonds on the top.

Worthy of any lady who loves fine writing instruments with flair.

As to the yet-to-be announced or released James Dean, something whispers that your wish for red may indeed be granted.

We'll see. For your sake, I hope so.

Working and living where I do, waits of half a year or more aren't uncommon.

It's been an excellent training in savoring the possible, letting dreams dance through my thoughts, hoping that someday one might step into reality.

Tom you're such a gentleman, and that is perhaps why we all love you. You put us all to shame. I repent.

I fear I'm a shameful one, but not from impatience. I find that I mostly need time to ponder a purchase and sometimes it can be quite a long ponder. Having details and pictures long before release can be very helpful in edging me towards a decision and if I do decide I want to buy it then I can get it on release or shortly after if I need more time. It has meant that some pens that have proved immensely popular on release with no prior details or pictures have long gone before I've finally made a decision. In that sense I must confess I do find MB's policy on release a little frustrating, but perhaps I'm a rare bird in this sense.

You are not alone here. I like to do considerable online "research" before I buy.

  • 1 month later...

I stopped in today at the Montblanc Los Angeles store at Beverly Center to pick up my repair pen. They were very talkative about the James Dean pen and made sure I was on the list to receive 'first notice' when information can be sent out. If you are in the area stop by and talk with them about it. Sounds interesting to say the least. I do not think you will be disappointed.

As an aside, Patrick is the new manager there for about 7 months and he runs the place super along with Danita. It is no doubt a top notch location in regards to knowledge and assistance. Check them out.

My boutique sent me a link to the VIP preview of this pen.

I cant say much, but one of the key design elements of the very limited edition piece (less than 100 made) is almost certainly the coolest thing I have seen on an MB pen, indeed any pen.

As I posted in this topic thread back in May:

Please do NOT post design details or photographs of Montblanc product releases before the official release including. Similar to the 2018 Writers Edition topic thread and the JFK special edition for this year thread, it's unsporting to spoil the surprise for people.

Posts or threads with revealing details about the design, or with photographs of the pen, before the official release will be removed.

~ Surprises are fun!

Waiting for Montblanc to release new models is relaxing, with no urgency to know particulars.

Shaking a wrapped present to surmise contents lacks the appeal of imagining possible wonders within.

When the new Great Characters pen is announced in December, there'll be pleasure in seeing it then.

Montblanc's releases in 2018 have been varied, including inks.

I'm in no hurry to know what's coming next out of Hamburg's workshops.

I was thinking more along the lines of the number 130. That was his last assigned provisional race number and was still on the car when he crashed it.
