Platinum Desk Pens Questions

Can Platinum Desk Pens be filled using Silicone Grease? Specifically, I'm wondering about the Platinum Fountain Pen DPQ-700A#10 & DPQ-700A#1 using a desk stand for them. If not, what are the requirements for filling a fountain pen & sealing it with silicone grease? I just bought some and have already found tons of uses for it! Any help is appreciated.

There are no requirements to use silicon grease to fill a fountain pen. Not sure what you're thinking of, but the only use, generally, for silicone grease with fountain pens is to lubricate pistons in piston-filler-type pens, or to seal the threads on an eye-dropper-filled pen.

Can you explain your question a bit further?

Cheers,

Effrafax.

You need to be VERY specific in your description/explanation, because as written it makes no sense to me.

You do NOT want to fill a pen with silicon grease. It will not write, so what is the purpose?

WARNING silicon grease tends to migrate where you do not want it, so you need to be VERY CAREFUL where you use it.

And once on, it is very very very difficult to remove.

I use silicon grease very little, as it only has a few uses.

Hello,

Sorry If I was too vague. I read somewhere that some fountain pens can be filled w/ an eye dropper then made to seal using a very small amount of silicone grease on the threads to close it and make it leak-proof. This is what I was talking about. I am unsure what kind of fountain pens can be filled this way, so any information is appreciated. I work with silicone in my business, so applying it would be no problem. I don't intend to fill the pen w/ silicone grease. Thank you.

My Platinum desk pen has a hole at the end of the body, so you would need to plug that somehow.

Also, I feel like there would be a much higher chance of leaking ink into the stand (if that's how you're using it); when temperature changes any air in the body of an eyedropper can change volume. The more air the greater the total change of volume. Because eyedroppers have a high capacity that can mean a large change of volume. If the pen is pointing down as air expands, it can potentially leak ink.

Thank you! This answers my question.

Just to note - the Pilot Desk Pen (which fits the Platinum desk set base) does not have a hole in the body, and I put silicon grease on the threads and use it as an eyedropper without any issues.
