No, there are none worth buying. Additionally, buying fakes perpetuates that market and emboldens the cheaters.

Not really.

Fakes are frowned on in this forum for a reason: they are pale imitations of the real thing. When you use one, you know you're using a fake. When someone who knows Montblanc pens see you using one, they know you're using a fake.

Used and vintage is often a better route to go. If you work hard, you can probably find some bargains or a model that you like which you can save up for.

For similar style pens you can look at Jinhao pens. The 159 looks like a MB 149, but feels nothing like one.

If you want less blah, blah, blah and more pictures, follow me on Instagram!

+1 for this.

Buying a fake Montblanc gives you absolutely nothing that is like the authentic item. -_-

If you love their style, go with a Japanese counterpart. The sailor 1911 and the platinum #3776 are reminiscent of MontBlanc's design while being unique in their own right.

+1 for all above.

There are plenty of fakes and counterfeits out there that can be had for a few $, but I'm not quite sure why you would want a Montblanc (not Mont Blanc) when you know that it's a fake. Owning and using a Montblanc should be more than just being able to flash the MB logo. If you want a stylish and affordable pen there are so many genuine ones to be had; just spend 10 minutes going through the classifieds here on FPN.

The impact of buying Counterfeits can almost be viral. A couple of weeks ago (and this happens so often) I informed an Auction House that two MBs they were listing were cheap fakes that could be bought for $15 apiece, and even sent them a link. They ignored me and some poor soul paid £150 + commission for them. One day they'll realise what they've bought and they'll probably feel sick and taken in, and may very well try to sell them on to some other poor, unsuspecting soul.

Please don't perpetuate that trade.

If you are looking for a pen that looks similar to a MB pen then take a look at the Jinhao159. To my opinion a workhorse pen and with a very good prize-performance-relationship.

Or you are looking for a used pen. Sometimes you are lucky and get a mint or near-mint pen for a less prize. E.g. I got my Montblanc Meisterstueck 149 with 18c nib for a prize of EUR 252 and the pen was in mint condition.

Investing in fake pens might lead to frustration. So if you want to spend less money then go for a Jinhao159, if you spend some more money go for a good used original pen.

I can understand OP's concerns. But, keep checking the FPN Classifieds, and you might find someone selling a MB pen for a great price. For example, I bought a used, but in mint condition MB 149 fountain pen from the Pentrace classifieds for $250.00 about 18 months ago.

Also, if you don't mind me asking, what's your budget? You can sometimes get good deals on some of their pens for under 75 - 100 USD.

What is the problem with a fake as long as it is stated as such and the price is worthy of a fake?

A fake is worthless.

And a lot of people don't know what they are buying. Also, not all fakes are identified as such; just seen a seller on Ebay selling a number of counterfeits and you have to read his listings so carefully before you realise that they're probably not genuine.

It also makes the second hand market very difficult. Some Montblanc models are so heavily counterfeited that some people just won't take the risk.

If you buy one, then the person who made it will have to make another to sell to the next man. If 50,000 next men come along and buy them, then there are another 50,000 fakes on the market.

How can you guarantee than when any of those owners die, those fakes that they owned and used, and knew of as fakes, will not be off loaded as authentic items by the next owners who don't know whether they are authentic or not?

That's essentially how the problem gets out of control.

I have to wonder what the OP wants out of the pen in the first place. If that person wants a MB, save up and buy a real one, even a used one. Or is it just that he/she wants to *appear* to be able to afford a real one for the cachet of having one? Sorry, but that's how it's coming across.

And this is the problem I have with the brand in general. Frankly, I have less expensive pens that write as well (or better) than the ones I've tried without having the "snob factor". For the price of a 149 (which is too big and heavy for my hand even if I *did* want one) I bought TWO Pelikan M405s. Great writers, classy looking, and a much better size and weight for me (plus two different nibs so I can decide whether I want to write with a B or EF nib without a lot of fuss). And I don't have to worry about whether they're real or fakes.

The company has rebranded itself as "luxury" and so people buy into the status of of "luxury"... and as a result, there are tons of fake ones on the market. And to actively seek a fake one just perpetuates that.

Do like other people have already said: buy a Sailor, or a Jinhao. Or maybe a vintage Sheaffer Balance. That gets you the shape (if that's what you're looking for) for a lot less money, and you're not helping the market for fraudulent items. Which, by the way, might be considered "criminal felicitation".... Just saying....
