Polish Cellulose Acetate

Which is the best way to polish (remove minor, very very light scratches caused by normal use) a cellulose acetate pen body? I think some Aurora optima and namiki impressions are made of this material. I polish my resin fountain pens (such as montblancs) with a plastic polish salve (xerapol) with great results. Would this be suitable for cellulose acetate?

Thanks.

xerapol is pretty inert according to its MSDS. Aluminum oxide abrasive, no solvents at all.

If it's really only micro scratches, I simply use rough newspaper without anything and hand polish. If it's deeper, I prefer dialux blue polishing paste with a small felt buffing wheel and a dremel. The latter needs a bit of caution so that the material is not getting too hot. This works for essentially any plastics and the metal parts as well.

i have never heard before the newspaper polishing method! . i will give it a try and see what happens but i do not think that it would do something.

thanks

Give it a try, you might be surprised. Paper is more of an abrasive than many would think but it's still very mild compared to standard polishing paste. I bet that all our grandparents still knew that. You can also try white copier paper, which may be slightly more abrasive due to its titanium dioxide content. Anyway paper polishing is always my first choice on celluloid pens and often works great. If this method is not effective enough to smooth the surface sufficiently, I step up to the next method.

When I read the title I thought I should check the thread, wondering what would be distinctive about Polish cellulose acetate ........
