Just got a Parker desk set today

I just went to an antique store today and saw a nice double pen desk set. Right away I could tell it was a Parker. I took out one of the pens, and it looked just like a "51"! Upon further examination, it felt quite light for its size. A tad cheap too. I unscrewed the barrel and saw a black rubber sac and no "Parker '51'" written on the Aerometric filler. The nib looked like steel, not the gold on a "51". The hood, though, looked very similar to a "51", so I'm thinking its a Super "21". The clutch ring is also very similar to a real "51". Anyways, just curious what I got. For $4, I thought even if it wasn't a "51" it would still be a good deal. Some pictures are included.

This picture shows the whole base and pens inside. The base has the magnet to make the pen-holders stay on.

This picture shows both pens out, one taken apart. The one taken apart says on the Aerometric filler "PARKER; To fill press ribbed bar four times, wipe front end, pen point down, with soft tissue; use Parker ink; The Parker Pen Company; Made in USA."

This final picture is a close up of the nib and feed.

Anyways, I hope someone can tell me what I got. Thanks!

I can confidently confirm that you got a good deal.

I think it's a super 21 desk set, but I'll wait for the experts.

I suppose there's an outside chance that it's a "51" special desk set (with the octanium nib), but the two that I have both indicate as much on the filler. I'd guess a 21 as well.

Also waiting for the experts to weigh in.

Thank you very much Don and Paul. I agree with you; I think it is also a Super "21".

Hi,

The clutch-ring tells me that it is probably a later "51" special.
