Hi there!

I just purchase a vintage Waterman Ideal that I can not identify. Here the pictures:

From this source:

https://vintagepens.com/FAQhistory/waterman_numbering.shtml

I suspect that this is a 0552 V or 0552 1/2V LEC (I don't know how much is 'slender' diameter) but this pen has no imprint at the bottom of the barrel and the nib has a rounded breather hole (no heart shaped).

Would you please help me with this identification?

Thanks!

I cannot see the photos, can you use a different photo uploading service like imgur.

I already change the images server to IMGUR.

I hope now you can help me with this. Thanks

Beautiful pen. Can you provide the dimensions. That would help more than anything, I think in definitively determining the model.

To my eye, the proportions (long cap compared to barrel) make it likely this is a 52V with 18K overlay.

The pen is marked 18K, so no 0 in the model number (0 for gold filled,) so I'm betting this is a 552V.

Again, gorgeous pen.

Best Regards, greg

Don't feel bad. I'm old; I'm meh about most things.

Thanks a lot!

More info:

1. Behind the 'ideal' logo of the lever says '18 k gold filled'.

2. Dimensions: 11 cm length capped, as shown in the picture. Cap diameter: 1.3 cm. Barrel diameter: 1.1 cm.

So,

a. What do you think now? Is this a 18k filled or solid overlay? Model?

b. How much would you say is a fair price for it (it need a new sac)?

c. What is the manufactured data?

Best regards

I agree, looks like a 552v in the smooth pattern.

It would be a 0552v instead, from around the 1920's. I wasn't sure if it was gold filled, the pen looked like it didn't have any brassing from the photos. A new sac installed by a reputable pen person should cost around $50 shipped both ways.

Thank you. I was refereed to the total price of the pen (not the sac replacement price)

If it was solid gold, would it not have a hallmark?

Thanks. In the image https://i.imgur.com/44XXxFQ.jpg you can see the '18k' mark.

This is what Gary Lehrer from GroPens.com tell me

"Since there is no Waterman imprint nor model number on the overlay, it was most certainly added by a jeweler post-sale, not by the Waterman factory. It was probably (but not definitively) added in France, as they tended to use 18K rather than 9K or 14K. Based on the lever and clip, which are very likely original to the hard rubber pen underneath, it started life as a Model #52.

In it's current configuration we cannot apply a model number from Waterman's system As a jeweler's overlay it doesn't command much value in the Waterman pen collecting community, perhaps the gold value plus $100 premium. "

What your opinion about all this?

Thanks again

I'm of the same opinion as Gary Lehrer.
