Need a close up of the nib.

A bit more of the clip would help and the rest of the shape of the barrel.

Yes, more photos, a close-up of the nib, the whole pen. It's lovely! And your post sent me on a quest to try to find out how many fountain pens have been named after birds (not that this one has such a name but the nib suggests that it might). Hope you will have a chance to post more photos of your wonderful pen! And tell us how it migrated to your desk?

Ls,

Someone is offering this fountain pen to me. I already asked for pictures but it seems he/she has some difficulties in making pictures and I do not want to ask too much.

Here is one more.

greetings

Likely German. Pretty common shape and mechanism for that period German Pens. Often at the time pens were bought but labeled by store name.

Jar is right, in the '30's there were some 120 'manufactures' who bought pen parts and assembled them, for Department stores or corner newspaper pen shops. (Osmia made pens for the Dutch Akkermann stores.) Some may have survived the war.

Degussa would stamp what ever company name on the nib, as would Bock....don't know about Rupp, but would think so, in the Customer is King.

At various times MB also made nibs for other companies.....and had a slew of lower level pen 'names' they made............slew= some 20-25 different named pens over the time.

Saw a list here this or last week. Could have been a link.

Thanks:

I could not agree more: german, except for one thing: the nib has the inscription "trade mark".

This doesn't sound very german....

Nibs have always been fairly easy to replace and every pen shop could find or modify a nib to fit the customers pen.

I hope you will decide to pursue this lovely pen. Addicted to fountain pens and to birds, and to fountain pens with birds, I wish for this pen to come your way (and more photos our way :) )

I have no experience in pen identification, but the pen clip reminds me of a an older Waterman. Though this can hardly be that. Whatever it is, perhaps it should be yours?

Beautiful piston filler pen with a beautiful nib. Hope you get it and enjoy writing with it. Is the nib gold? 14k/14ct?

Hoping it is not too rude or intrusive to ask... Did you ever get this pen? If you did, it would be exciting to hear more about it! ~M

The nib is for sure a 'Caw' nib... I've been hunting for one on eBay ever since someone outbid me at the last second on one...!

(but I'm not bitter, or anything... ... ...)

Anyway, it's for a totally shallow reason - I think the bird on the Caw nib is awesome! I think every time I started writing with it, I'd have to say 'Nevermore!' first or something.

There's a thread with some info on the company here:

I don't think that's a shallow reason--for I've been doing the same, ever since kdv posted these intriguing photos. (kdv, you should hold an auction! ;-)

Did you ever acquire a vintage Caw with its lovely nib, or are you still in search of this elusive bird?

Hi,

I eventually got a lot of two 'Caw' pens on eBay... there's a seller on there... ummm... 'flevini4' ... who I think is based in Holland... maybe? Anyway, often have some vintage pens for sale, and occasionally a 'Caw' pen.

The pen itself needs the ink sac replaced, but the nib writes very nicely dipped... it's quite delightfully flexy. And has the cute raven on it, so I'm 100% happy with it!
