Sailor Pen Boxes Have Changed

Recommended Posts

I just received a new Sailor Promenade and it came in a different box than all my other Sailors (incl Promenades).

I think they might have changed the boxes for good, and they basically raised the price on their pens this way too, because the box isn't faux leather anymore, but it's a blue cardboard box. Also the cardboard white sleeve doesn't have the cut-out anymore. The "Sailor" logo is small now, in the right lower corner.

Anyone else got the new box? Maybe for another model than the Promenade?

PS One correction: the "Sailor" inscription & logo aren't in the lower right hand corner, but in the middle of the right side.

This post is basically just an observation and to see whether anyone else got the new box.

Many of the Japanese pens come separate from the boxes, and the boxes aren't even consistent globally.

Last month I got a Pro Gear Slim 4 Seasons model in just such a sleeved blue box.

Taken from the Sailor catalogue I got from Maruzen a few weeks back

That's it! Thank you!

Not surprising if they change(d) the packaging, as they've been busy changing the ink bottles and the cartridge boxes and introduced new inks. They've been busy bees!

I've had some Japanese fpens arrive outside their boxes too, same with Pelikan though. I think the vendors just weren't bothered putting the pens in the boxes.

The boxes I got were consistent so far though, always the same type of box with associated models (certain models in certain boxes, e.g. the Lecoule in the white plastic box, all models above -Somiko/ Young Profit; ProColor; Sapporo/ Pro Gear Slim; Promenade; 1911 Standard in the faux leather; Prera also in white plastic, Custom Heritage 91 in blue plastic; Plaisir; Balance in white plastic if I remember right; 3776 Century in faux leather), regardless of country/ continent of purchase.

I am not sure if all the big three do this nor do I remember for sure which ones, but I believe that at least one allows the individual stores decide which packaging of several options to use.

That's interesting to know!

My Platinum 3776 Lavande came in an oval cardboard box.

Special or limited editions are always exceptions :)
