Scottsdale Pen And Knife Closing

Hello all. I got an email notice today that Scottsdale Pen and Knife is closing today. For us here in Arizona that's a big loss of one of the few actual pen stores you can go to. It was run by Jay and his wife, Karen. I'd never met his wife, but the times I'd stopped by Jay was always talking and showing stuff to customers. Sad times.

Oh, that is unfortunate.

Any time a Brick and Mortar store is lost is not a good thing.

Too much online buying= dead stores.

Worst is the snide; get the advice and buy 10% cheaper from a fly by night no overhead seller, that some think is perfectly OK.

Now...no advice....buy blind.

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

this is heartbreaking news...they (and Penchetta's) had become a regular, anticipated part of my trips to Phoenix :(

  • 3 weeks later...

I bought my favorite pen there (Lamy 2000). I stopped by on Friday to see Jay, and he was almost entirely wiped out. Very sad.

The owners should just convert Scottsdale Pen and Knife into and online store and walla, the problem is solved.

Does anyone exactly why the store closed? There are many reasons for someone to decide to close a business.

I ride a recumbent, I play go, I use Macintosh so of course I use a fountain pen.

Maybe they need to cut fixed costs like rent and such. Or maybe they want to retire. It could be many different reasons.
