Probably some other type of alloy, resembling brass but not being actually brass?

was thinking to soak it for a week or a month...

there are brass alloys which are highly corrosion resistant used for ships' propellers, washers, and bushes. 

would you mind scratching it a bit to see if it was electrochemically plated?
