Pilot Mixable Cartridge Violet

This is Pilot Mixable Violet, which comes only in cartridge form. Although Pilot says on the package that the Mixable cartridges are for their Parallel pens only, I've used all the colours in other pens with no adverse effect whatsoever.

The Mixable cartridges are generally very wet and smooth, with gorgeously saturated colours. Here I am using Violet in a Nakaya Soft Medium nib. This nib is toothy and rather dry, and this ink is one of the few inks that makes this nib glide across paper in a smooth and pleasant way.

The only problem I have with several of the Mixables is that they are prone to feather, especially on ordinary copy paper. Some colours behave better, like the Red (my favourite), the Blue, the Green (a doppelgänger of Parker Penman Emerald), the Black and the Blue-Black. The Violet in this review, sadly, is one of the more feather-y one.

Sample

(Tomoe River. It doesn't feather on Tomoe River. And there's the gorgeous green sheen. If you use only less absorbent paper like Tomoe River paper, do try this rich violet/purple ink.)

(For comparison, check it out on copy paper.)

Sheen

(on Tomoe River. On other papers you're probably not going to see the sheen due to the feathering.)

Comparison

(also with writing samples on Maruman loose leaf. It doesn't feather on Maruman, but there's a very slight bleedthrough - the Noodler one bleeds even more. )

It is interesting how close it looks to Lamy Dark Lilac. Shame about the feathering.

OH, thank you, this was wonderfully yummy.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Would adding a drop of distilled water in the cartridge make it less prone to feathering?

I'm kicking myself for not buying more of the Lamy Dark Lilac when I had the chance because I love it, and I have been trying to find something that's almost the same. Pilot Violet seems very close. I haven't found anything close to Dark Lilac other than this one.

Any suggestions? I don't mind if it doesn't sheen.
