Hi, Folks!

This is the later version Eversharp Skyline Presentation Brown color men's model fountain pen c. 1943. This 5 1/4 inch long lever-fill model has a clip with the over the top band. The later Presentation models have radial engraved lines on the gold filled cap sleeve, a change that shows in advertising by 1943. All trim is gold filled. The clip band is stamped EVERSHARP SKYLINE PAT. MADE IN U.S.A. and the clip has EVERSHARP and the double check guarantee symbol stamped on the face. The cap top and barrel are injection molded plastic and the pens can be found in Black, Blue, Green, Brown and Dubonnet colors. These pens have a long breather tube that extends from the end of the section into the ink sac. The nib has the banner stamping with EVERSHARP over 14K over MADE IN U.S.A. The pen sold for $8.75 and the matching injector pencil sold for $4.00.

Hi all, I came across this thread and thought I would share a recent find that I restored, the pen was in excellent physical condition, it needed new sac and a good cleaning. This a regular size 5.25" army brown Skyline with a rare (from my reading on Skylines) "dart" or "chevron" gold filled cap. I'm new to Skylines and now have several of them (I will be posting more pictures of others I have restored) and I will certainly be hunting more down, they are absolutely beautiful and interesting pens. Thanks for looking, Cheers

This is a pristine early production pen/pencil set in green with the less common vertical lines on the gold filled caps, it is the small 4.75" model and has a clear viewing area on the section. The set came to me in the original box in excellent physical condition, it needed a good cleaning and a new sac was fitted into the pen. Thanks for looking, Cheers.

This a blue 4.75" Skyline with red and gold striated cap with the less common wide band, the dark blue color of the body and derby match perfectly. The pen has a new sac fitted and has been spiffed up and is in excellent overall condition.

Hi, Folks!

This is an Eversharp Skyline Modern Stripe fountain pen, often called "Moire" by collectors, in Blue striped celluloid with a wide cap band c. early 1940s. The new Skyline was advertised on the "Take It Or Leave It" radio game show that begin airing in April, 1940. Modern Stripe Skylines initially came in Blue, Green and Silver Grey and with a color coordinated plastic "derby," the dome cap top. Brown and burgundy models followed as well as pens with a gold filled cap band and derby cap tops. All trim is gold filled. This 5 3/16 inch long pen has EVERSHARP, INC PAT. MADE IN USA on the back of the cap top band and EVERSHARP on the clip face under the double check mark. The nib is the banner type and stamped EVERSHARP over 14K over MADE IN U.SA. There was also a shorter Ladies model. The standard Modern Stripe pens sold for $3.50, with matching Repeater pencils selling for $1.50. It's unknown if this version sold for a premium.

Some quick (non-artful) pictures of Skyline pens.

Picture 1. Left to right. An uncommon Executive sized pen, Standard Command Performance, Standard Red Moiré, Demi WAHL stamped clip brown, Demi Green Moiré.

Executives are hard to come by, this example was bought as a parts pen. I had no idea it was an Executive model when purchased.

The solid 14k Command Performance pens have a nice bling factor. They are often dented because they are so soft. This is the Standard sized model.

The Red Moiré pens can be tough to find, especially in good condition. This one is a Standard Size.

The next pen is very uncommon, the clip is stamped with WAHL, instead of the usual Eversharp. It is Demi Sized. I had to guess what it was from the blurry advertisement pictures. Nib is WAHL.

A Green Demi Moiré pen is fairly common

Picture 2. Three examples of the 1990s French Manufactured Skylines, which includes a limited edition Walt Disney pen, Black and Gold pen, and Stainless and translucent blue demonstrator.

The one in the box was marketed as a limited edition Walt Disney model. The other two are pretty typical, other than perhaps the blue one being a demonstrator.

Picture 3. Match set of the Wide band deluxe set with gold cap and celluloid striped cap barrel.

I was surprised to trip over this set at a reasonable price. Wide band with gold caps are uncommon, especially in good condition. This is a matched set.

These are not all my Skylines, just examples of some of the ones on hand.

Eversharp Skyline FPs are one of the pen models that I collect, although I've slowed down buying the current models over the past few years (despite really liking them; just a money issue). Here's what's in my collection. I have many of the level-fill 1st-Gen Skylines ("Gen-1"), many of the 1990s Eversharp reissue pens (including some prototypes)("Gen-2"), a few of the unauthorized reissues ("Gen-3"), and several (but only a minority) of the current "Sapperstein-era" models ("Gen-4). I love the look and feel of these pens, apart from their writing characteristics (which vary, depending on generation).

ROW # 1, L-to-R:

1-2 Gen-2: Black cap & barrel; Yellow Cab -- .

3-6 Gen-3: Fireman's; Doctor's; Teal-&-Black Lizzard cap w/ Black body; Grey-&-Black cap w/ GP tassie w/ Black body.

7-11 Gen-2: Black body w/ Sterling Silver horizontal-lined cap tube; Black body w/ GP horizontal-lined cap tube; Burgundy body w/ GP horizontal-lined cap tube; Clear Demonstrator; Blue Demonstrator w/ Chrome shiny cap tube and same blue tassie.

12-15 Gen-2 Demonstrator Prototypes: Red; Forest Green; Light Green; Amber. These demonstrators' gold-ish metal trim was of a cheaper material than that of the blue demonstrator, but they came with either 14K or 18K gold nibs.

16 Gen-2: The "Army" Special Edition extruded aluminum FP. As advertised, this pen came in a special box that included a model WWII airplane and a dogtag with the special edition number of the pen. The aluminum was said to come from actual American WWII airplanes. The other Gen-2 FPs are meant to be opened by unscrewing the endcap to get to the cartridge or converter. The "Army" model's body separated in the middle, as with most C/C FPs, to access the cartridge or converter. I purchased these directly from Eversharp (as an online retailer then) without the aluminum model airplane and fancy big box. I'm showing here only one of the four I purchased.

ROW # 2, L-TO-R:

1-7: Gen-2 Prototypes (I think; otherwise, Gen-3): in different colors with shiny chrome cap tubes. These FPs came with an Eversharp GP steel nib. These also used a cheaper gold-ish metal for trim.

8-14 (Gen-4): in different colors. Some of these are RBs, but most are FPs.

15-16 (Gen-2): Two more of the Black body w/ Sterling Silver horizontal-lined cap tube.

fpn_1589558682__skyline_row_2.jpeg

ROW # 3 (L-TO-R):

1-6: More of some of the Gen-2 FPs seen in Row # 1.

7-8: Two more of some of the Gen-2 Demonstrator Prototypes.

9-16: More of the Gen-2 regular demonstrators -- 3 blue and 5 clear.

fpn_1589558717__skyline_row_3.jpeg

Row # 4, L-to-R:

1-2 (Gen-2): The same C/C burgundy and gold FPs, as shown earlier.

3-11 (Gen-1): Various FPs (one pencil) with plastic caps and barrels.

12-16 (Gen-1): Various FPs with gold bodies and/or caps --

12-13: a FP & Pencil set in Navy Blue body w/ 14K solid gold cap.

14: a GP FP with horizontal lines.

15-16: a Command Performance FP & Pencil set, all in solid 14K gold.

fpn_1589558744__skyline_row_4.jpeg

Row # 5, L-to-R:

1-9 (Gen-1): Various Skyline Moiré FPs (5th slot empty, pending getting feed and nib for another, shorter red Moiré).

10-16 (Gen-1): Various lever-fill Skyline FPs with one pencil.

fpn_1589558779__skyline_row_5.jpeg

ROW # 6, right-side Skylines, L-to-R:

11-16 (Gen-1): Various Skyline FPs, two still with original price tags around the pen's lower barrel.

(The other pens in this row are Eversharp Symphony models).

DonnWeinberg,

Thank You for posting those pictures. I think this is some of the first (posted here) pictures I have ever seen of Generation 4 Skyline pens.

I have a bit of a weakness for the Red Moiré Skylines, and always enjoy pictures of those, and your very uncommon Blue Moiré "WAHL" was a great find on your part.

The Lizard cap Skyline shows up from time to time on auction sites, but I can never bring myself to bid high enough to win one.

You seem to be one of the very few people who collect the 90s French Skyline pens in any real amount. Yours is one of the most complete collections of this family.

Thank You once again for posting all of these.

donnweinberg: Thank you for sharing photos of your wonderful collection! This is indeed a labour of love  . Congratulations! Addertooth: Thank you for sharing your vintage collection of Skylines. I didn't realise that there are so many variations.

Thank you much Como. The ones I posted are a fraction of what I found, but many are too similar and lack notable characteristics which would be worth commenting on. Plus, I really want to live in denial on how many skylines are currently in my cases. Too many are in the "I will fix it someday, when I get bored" category.

Wow... that collection of Skylines is huge...

As my pens have a general tendency towards stripes, my little batch of Skylines doesn´t include any non-striped specimens. And I have to admit I only like the first generation ones. What I haven´t seen in the other posts is something like my olive-grey-striped one.

I am always amazed when it comes to colour variation - my reds are different from each other, the blues and the greys as well.

01. Mechanical pencil - red with red striped cap, broad band and gold derby

02. Standard sized pen - red with red striped cap, broad band and gold derby

03. Standard sized pen - Modern Stripe Red Garnet

04. Demi sized pen - Modern Stripe Red Garnet

05. Standard sized pen - Modern Stripe Blue, narrow band and gold derby

06. Demi sized pen - Modern Stripe Blue

07. Standard sized pen - Modern Stripe Green

08. Standard sized pen - Modern Stripe Brown

09. Standard sized pen - Modern Stripe Grey (olive-grey)

10. Demi sized pen - Modern Stripe Grey (silver-grey)

To me, the striped Skylines are some of the most dazzling pens ever.

I'm now returning to this thread.  I haven't purchased any Skylines for the past few years, but I still appreciate them a lot.  I think the principle of "marginal utility" has affected my actions; I have so many Skylines that the marginal utility of paying a lot for another one is low for me.  What are the rest of you thinking or doing with regard to Skylines, past and present?

Nice to see you returning to the thread and helping keep interest going on what is maybe the most sales successful model of any pen ever made (allowing room for the Parker Vacs, maybe).  I hope people will click back to page 1 of the thread to drink in all the greats pens you and the others have posted.  As for gen 2 Skylines, that tray is maybe mode accurately filled with Gen 2 and Gen 3.  The Skylines with the metal tail blind cap trim ring are from 2013-present.  And the demonstrators were a regular production medel in both generations. Look carefully through your Moire/modern stripe 1940s pens for ones engraved WAHL on the clip and on the nib.   That was (and still is) a trademark renewal requirement to keep WAHL trademark name alive.  We continue to keep the Trademarks alive in practice to this day.
