Maybe David Nishimura ?? :unsure:

The PVC sacs he has are made for the Parkers. I need them for Snorkels and PFMs in sizes 14 and 17.

You don't need PVC for snorkel and PFMs - problem solved.

Yup. Preaching to the choir are you?

San Francisco International Pen Show - The next “Funnest Pen Show” is on schedule for August 23-24-25, 2024.  Watch the show website for registration details.

Agreed that they are not necessary, but they are what I typically use. Saves me the hassle of replacing the normal rubber sacs every so often. It's so much more of a hassle in a Snorkel, and a failed rubber sac in a Snorkel can wreak havoc.

I disagree. In the last 6 years or so I started to see sacs in snorkels failing prematurely. In some cases it was ink related, but in others, not. It may be a problem with the pen coming in contact with the metal sac guard.

When the sac in a snorkel fails and leaks, it can lead to rusted springs and other internal damage. The replacement springs do not work as well as the originals, so finding a way to preserve the original parts is in my mind, a good thing. Using PVC instead of latex is the simplest way to do that. This is not as big an issue in a PVM as in a snorkel with its carbon steel spring (PVM are stainless), but a leaking sac still makes a mess.

I did some testing, and found that standard #14 PVC sacs worked very well, taking in about the same amount of ink as the 14 1/2 latex sac.

David Nishimuras sacs are silicone, not PVC, and have a gas permeability issue. That is not a problem as long as you 1] are aware that the pen should be stored nib up, an 2] don't mind storing them that way. I can not assume either with clients pens, so had to quit using them.

Ron;

Would that be Pens vor Men (PVM)? You and Brian make a good case for saving the guts of the pen from leakage. So that is a second good case for silicon sacs. Also, if they last longer, might be a good reason to use them as well. Esterbrooks seem to have some very resilient sacs in them - probably 50+ year old sacs not uncommon. I did throw out some sacs I probably bought 15-20 years ago as they were significantly stiff though they had never been used.

I'll have to talk to the Chicago Show organizers about the wise guy working on the show.

Richard and I split a big bag of NOS, well sort of new OS 14 1/2 sacs from the Sheaffer service center, and used them for a while. I had problems with pens not filling after a while, even though the sac seemed to be fine.

I've been buying sacs from PSC since the late 80s or early 90s, but it was something like early 2012 that I noticed early sac failures in snorkels and made the change later that year. I've been using PVC since then, and haven't had problems with the sacs.

So where you will get them now, Ron?

I don't know. I have enough for a while - I placed an order the day before Martin passed away, and he must have been very quick and had them in the mail that day because they arrived a week or so later. I hope that someone buys the business and carries on with his work. But we will see. I could use silicone. I still have the sacs I bought a couple of years ago, but have not used them because of the oozing issue. I don't store my pens nib up, and I can't expect my clients to, so that is an issue.
