Google Doodle For 3/12/2018: William Henry Perkin

Who is William Henry Perkin? The discoverer of Mauveine - the first synthetic organic dye. Made from aniline. Guess what? Most inks today are made from aniline dyes. What color is Mauveine? Purple. I thought this was pretty cool. Serendipity. Kind of like Sir William Henry Perkin's discovery.

Of course, on my screen the color isn't right -- mauve is actually a lighter and duskier color than what is shown here.

But it's a cool theme for a Google Doodle, nonetheless. I saw a thing on TV a couple of years ago about the people who do the Doodles. What a great, creative job to have (I LOVED the little animations they did a few weeks ago for the Winter Olympics).

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

I usually look at them, learn a little about somebody I didn't know before. Like this one. Some of the animations are fun. I remember a cricket one I think last summer. You could play the game.

When I looked at one of the first dresses, I was in love!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

You want a dress with a bustle?

Absolutely. If it is in that color.

I grew up in the 1980s I wore a gown with a bustle to prom.
