Lamy Safari Body Parts

Hi - does anyone know if the parts of the Lamy Safari fountain and rollerball pens are interchangeable? The nib end section of my Safari is pretty badly scuffed and I want to replace it, but rather than buy a complete new fountain pen just to get that section (its a special edition so complete pens are selling for serious money), I was wondering if I could use the same piece from the rollerball pen (they look identical in the pictures) as these are cheaper to buy! I don't have a rollerball to take apart to see if the fountain pen nib unit would fit in it, so am hoping that someone on here has tried?

Only the barrel and the ring and the cap are interchangeable. The grip section is a spare part that can be ordered separatly though.

I converted a roller ball to a fountain pen by putting the fountain pen section in a roller ball body and cap but you can't convert it the other way (roller ball cartridge is too long).

 

A friend found a SE Ruby Al-star in a roller ball for me and I took the fountain pen section out of another Lamy and now have a Ruby Al-star fountain pen. The only difference is the barrel does not have an ink window and the cap has a "-" instead of a "+"
