Montblanc Classique Vs Legrand Rollerball

Keyless Works

Recommended Posts

I want to buy a rollerball and ballpoint to go with a solitaire 146 fountain pen. I want the legrand because its the better size and matched my 146 BUT the refill selection is much worse. For some reason the fineliner only comes in B in the legrand and the regular rollerball comes in much less colors than the classique. The classique also benefits from a friction fit cap which I prefer.

Are there any reasons other than aesthetics to pick the Legrand?

LeGrand refills may come in fewer colours, but they last longer than standard refills for the Classic.

I wasn't aware that LeGrand sized fineliner refills only come in B. I wonder if this is new?

This thread reminded me that I once had a Mb Le Grand RB, so I looked for it.

It's a Meisterstück Silver Solitaire Pinstripe, and I found it sitting in it's box in a drawer, as new, and I can't remember if I ever used it. :o

From what I can tell they only ever came in B for the Legrand. I believe it is relatively new that the LeGrand has a fineliner refill unlike the classique model. Also interestingly the Montblanc M line only does a fineliner in a extra fine artists point.

For me it is definitely a question of comfort regarding the size of the section. 146 rollerball for sure...

Right. I went for the LeGrand sizes.

Haha, nice! If you don't want it ill take it off of your hands. I never used to be interested in fancy ballpoints and rollerballs but since I eliminated the pen cup on my desk in favor of a three spot pen tray I needed to get something better looking.

I have a really nice Cartier Pasha Rollerball with my initials engraved on the cap ring but when I went to look for the matching ballpoint I found that they don't make that pen anymore and the only one I could find was a badly scratched up one for $250 on that auction site.

I have never been interested in three pen sets but from now on I think I might be.
