Should I Go For Snake Or Dragon Clip?

Hi, Im have been considering about getting MB Agatha at some point. But lately, I begin to wonder, what about the more limited dragon clip? It doesnt seem to gain as much popularity as does Agatha, but has anybody seen the two pens in person? - Ive recently questioned why the dragon clip seems so overlooked in comparison to Agatha (apart from the price)...

 

Has anybody actually seen the two in flesh in comparison? I saw the snake clip in someones suit once and that was really beautiful! (Before that, there is no way that Ill be buying it)

 

But how about the dragon clip?????

Snake! It's so much nicer and it's much more popular should it ever go on the market for sale.

 

The dragon clip is too thick and bulky and doesn't have the beautiful curving lines of the snake clip.

Different markets and different tastes. I like the snake but bought the dragon to have both: European and Asian interpretations of the same pen. Snake left as a gift for a very good friend.

I have both sets in my collection.

 

The first idea of Montblanc for the 1993 Writers Edition was the pen with the snake clip as this clip was quite famous for Montblanc pens in the 1920th. But in Asia the snake doesn't has a good reputation and the sales didn't match the expectations. So Montblanc launched the Dragon-clip version in a much lower quantity just for the Asian market.

 

I prefer the Dragon clip because I'm born in the year of the Dragon. And as a collector I prefer the Dragon clip as well as it is much more rare than the Snake clip — but much more expensive too.

When new, some of the 1993 Imperial Dragon models did make their way to the US at least. There is a pen store in Boston that had the three-piece set of Imperial Dragon for very long time -- it didn't sell for three or four years, and ended up being marked down to a lower price, though still out of my buying range.

The Year of The Golden Dragon 2000 is the interesting one for me. Of course, geared to the Asian market too- but what I find cool is that it has a No. 9 nib and is quite large in size. The price, of course, will reflect that.

I would say go with the snake, just because the dragon doesn't look lively and elegant enough as if it's a European dragon of sorts, not the Asian variety, created just to cater to cater to the Chinese market without much thought behind it, knowing that the Chinese would buy anything with a dragon and 8 anywhere in its description. I'd say this, coming from a Chinese background.

I have seen both in person and while I think the dragon clip is very lovely, I opted for the snake, and not because of financial issues. I preferred the look of the snake. The dragon was ornate and very well sculpted, but it also seemed big and clunky considering the streamlined look of the Agatha.

 

I don't regret my choice.
