Here is a scan of a test I completed with Fount India, its water-resistant properties can be seen in the scan.

I'm still after a date for the bottle - any ideas FPNers?

Greetings, Chris!

I realize that I am rather late in joining into this discussion, but I have a question.

Is this vintage ink an India ink, as indicated by the name?

I asked, because -- just this week -- I read that India inks are appropriate for fountain pens made and used for drawing, but that India inks can actually damage fountain pens made and used for writing.

Unfortunately, I cannot recall the name of the Web site on which I read this information.

I pass this information along, however, Chris, in case it might be of benefit to you or other FPN members.

Thank you for your time and consideration!

Cordially,

David

India (and other) inks w/ shellac (or acrylic) intended for dip or technical pens, if allowed to dry in a pen can render the pen unusable.

There are a couple of india inks intended for fountain pens and Higgins Fountain Pen India is one (and a favourite of mine).

Good discussion here:

A warning sign is if the bottle says, ``Clean equipment after use.''

India inks of the past are NOT recommended in fountain pens. However, over the last couple of years INDIA has seen some nice reformulating to make them more fountain pen friendly. Be sure you check the box labels and be very careful which ones you pick. I also won't hurt you to get yourself some Rapido-eze cleaner. To be on the safe side don't leave the ink in your pen without using it for more than a couple of days and always clean your pen with a good cleaner after you are finished. The alternative would be to use Platinum Carbon Black. It is a safer bet.
