Came to see if were still bashing Montblanc. Yup!

Ok will check again in a few days :P

PS Curious why only in Montblanc forum vs other manufacturers this happens.

PPS Do these guys also visit Hermes forums and complain about the price of their scarves? Or Patek Philippe and say that their Timex tells the time just as well?

I find forums vary greatly. I like this one because it is usually polite when the MB bashers are busy elsewhere. The luxury product forums are usually polite, I'm not sure why (watches etc.) However don't go to Canon vs Nikon forums unless you like a bit of fight. Quite aggressive at times despite the products being very good and similar. Yet the Leica guys are lovely. Odd.

I never understood the source of this precious resin. Looks like feels like plastic to me. Too much for that ink.

I think this guy explains it well: http://www.peneconomics.com/blog/2016/12/2/precious-resin

Plastic varies a lot in cost and quality. The "precious" name may just be a translation. But it does give the trolls something to be sarcastic about.

I am not interested in watches, or scarves.

In my opinion (and only opinion not a generalised statement), whatever pens I have had from MB (149, 146 and a few rollerballs), the pricepoint at which they come at, is not equivalent to the quality provided. I would say that MB 149 is a good 350 euros pen, but certainly not a 550+ Euros pen. They feel cheap in hand.

Pens from Pelikan, a fellow European makers feel more solid and are cheaper too. Not to mention that general quality of their piston is better than MB. Their nibs might be inconsistent, but MB isn't an exception to that as well. I read through the entire MB nib replacement thread which had stories similar to Pelikan nibs, inconsistent.

If I am getting something which feels cheap in hand for 550, why shouldn't I take something that costs 200 euros less and feels better in hand?

Over and above both these European brands, I prefer Namiki.

MB has 7000 euros skeleton models, which is almost equivalent to the price of a Namiki Maki-e Emperor. The work on emperor is much more intricate, detailed, and more handwork and hours are put into making one Maki-e pen. Aside from the limited edition emperors, the regular issue emperors take 3 months to make with only 4 pieces per batch. Can you say that the same amount of hard work and hours have been put into making one skeleton model of MB?

Sure, both are different types of pens, but they cost almost the same. A normal human being would look at maximum returns (not in form of money, but in form of hard work done on his pen) for the same amount of money. I can buy both, but my money at all of the price points would go to a different brand and not MB.

I have tried to keep it as polite as possible to not start any flame wars. Hope that is receiprocated.

Edit: for some reason the forum cannot display the euro sign, so I had to edit the message to add 'euros' instead of the sign for the currency.

I have never considered myself a troll on these forums. I own six Montblancs and my opinion of the feel of the material they are made from remains. Perhaps MB could provide a better explanation of precious resin.

When the new inks come out i may change my mind and buy all of them. A bottle of that ink equates to only a few delivered pizzas these days at todays prices.

That is so true, and ink provides a much better line on the paper than pizza. :D

:D Perhaps someone should post a "Montblanc Precious Resin" is great thread in one of the other forums so all the MB bashers will flock elsewhere.

~ Mew:

Thank you for your carefully worded post.

The craftsmanship which produces a Namiki Maki-e Emperor pen yu've explained well.

Aren't you able to add the Euro symbol, €?

On my keyboard it's shift+option+2. Heretofore I’ve used it in prior posts without any issues.

I hope that somehow there'll be a method for you to type the € symbol.

Ah, but we pen people are not normal human beings.

Over $70 per bottle? I'll save up for vintage Parker Penman Sapphire instead.. :)

I’m finding deAtramentis has beautiful colors and excellent behavior as long as I avoid the shimmering and scented variants. Plus it only costs $13 a bottle.

Being the "numbers" person that many accuse me of (which I find incredibly funny since I flunked second semester geometry), I generally have 20 fountain pens inked up each week, each pen which will hold an average of 0.9mL of ink per fill. So that means if I were to ink them all up at one time, I would have used 18mL of ink. I have 72 bottles of ink (yeah, I know I don't have that many) of varying amounts of ink which totals about 2,560 mL of ink. That means that I have ink now to last me the next 2.73 years IF I never bought another bottle. And that doesn't count the cartridges and samples that I have.

Out of this collection of inks, I have some that I absolutely love and carefully meter them. One of them is an old bottle of Waterman South Seas. When I use them, I am again appreciative of their amazing color and properties. The rest, I just enjoy writing with.

My point in saying all of this, is that if you like the ink and you feel that this is the only one of its incredible color and properties, please buy it, whether it costs $5 or $100. But then take the time to "smell the flowers" and enjoy it. Savor it like a fine wine. And appreciate the fact that when it is gone, there will be another that will capture your heart and captivate your senses.

Or the Parker Penman Emerald.

Hard times don't last, but hard people do.

Available now :-)

Cheers

Michael

Been available and on sale since 2 weeks ago actually.

Bought the 3 colors alongside Emerald Green and posted pics and had mini-reviews ready (along with the JFK 2018), but they were removed because it was too early to show on FPN.

However, several other posts are discussing them with pics/links other than mine apparently.

Yes, saw that post for a glimpse ;-)

The German online store listed them since yesterday so availability or at least stocking in boutiques most likely was before.

Official release date was May 1st for the Emerald Green and March (!!!) for the Elixir inks but somehow they were delayed.

Cheers

Michael
