If I like the color, and it behaves well, I'd buy it. For me, I use a variety of inks in my everyday writing, so a bottle can last me years. If it's an awesome color, I could see using it for that long

You do make a point, but I don't really like where this is going.

It seems like there is a trend for companies to raise ink prices. Just recently Sailor pretty much doubled their prices, MB turned 30ml bottles to 50ml, S.T. Dupont released a fairly expensive new line.. Just a few years ago, you could only find a couple of brands going for over 30 dollars per bottle, but now it's fairly common.

It's like they are testing to see how much they can raise the prices, before consumers react.

At those prices, I'll react all right. Especially since all they show us is the bottle and the box. Not what the ink actually looks like....

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

I suspect a considerable amount of the price increase is due to the Montblanc perfume department getting the job of designing the bottle and packaging.

Never mind the price, folks, at least with these Mb Elixirs you can now get precious natural ink to go in their precious resin pens. 🤪🤪

I never understood the source of this precious resin. Looks like feels like plastic to me. Too much for that ink.

MB know that most of the people who are attracted to their products (I'm not talking about us pen enthusiasts) are not the sharpest knives in the box and they will fall for just about any marketing ploy. Sorry MB, at $7 I might be interested but...

+1 for this. You also get brand new companies like Colorverse jumping on the bandwagon, making ink and seeing how much people will pay for a new "natural and organic" ink product.

As a consumer, I've reacted and don't pay these crazy prices. But each to their own. :)

the bottle design is not unique either, only the square cap design is different... new sailor blue, black inks come in 50 ml squarish crystal bottles, so does Louis Vuitton inks... but with simple round caps

atleast colorverse and S.t DuPont have crated very unique and out of the box bottle designs. buying inks just for bottle design is another addiction in its own....with loads of followers :P .

I love Montblanc pens, I have quite a few and hope to get more, however I've never been attracted to their inks all that much, even when they were only expensive. No chance I'll like them better now that they are downright robbery.

For the history of the colours and idea to produce them, I will look to acquire all three.

Montblanc: 146 75th Anniversary, 147 Le Grande, Doue Solitaire

Parker: Gold Duofold Centennial, Sonnet Fougere

Visconti Bronze Homo-Sapien

Waterman Edson Sapphire Blue

I like Colorverse because of their originality. Mb target designer label groupies.

It's a high price for ink alright but they are only doing what any business with any sense would do in response to the antics of our own dear community. It wasn't that long ago that many people on this forum and many interested in fountain pens and writing were chasing the latest and greatest from Kingdom Note, Sailor and Pen & Message and were quite prepared not only to pay seriously high prices, but also buy many multiples at a time - in some cases more than they could ever use in a lifetime. I joined the chase for a little bit a long time ago and sought Kingdom Note's Tanna Japonensis and ended up with two bottles bought off the bay before it became exceedingly rare. Shortly after that the price went into orbit. I watched a bottle of Tanna sell for €120 about a year ago along with a tulip bottle of Fujiyama Blue sell for €330. Scroll through any of Montblanc's limited run inks on the bay and be amazed at what people ask and sadly, what many people will actually pay. Lots of businesses - not only Montblanc - sat up and took note and the truth is we only have ourselves to blame. There is nobody else to blame here for the huge increases in ink prices except our good selves.

All that preachiness aside, I'd still pay you €40 for a bottle of Tanna

My strategy has been to buy early and eschew the later feeding frenzy. I don’t think I’ve ever paid much over list price, and usually slightly less.

I did buy 6 bottles of Bungbox Sweet Potato Purplein the vase bottles from Japan about 4 years ago but gifted or sold 5 of them. Just sold last of the 5 spares £30. There are still deals to be made if you organise or participate in group buys with friends. It drastically reduces shipping overheads etc.
