I recommend J. Herbin Pearle Noire. It has great flow and I don't notice any feathering... it's the black I use at the office in my Platinum desk pen set. (The other pen has Sheaffer Red).

Ruth, I put Noodlers X-Feather-X in an EF Lamy 2000, an EDC that writes on cheap paper often for work. Nice black black, early days but very encouraged after the first couple weeks.

 

The next generation should they survive will still probably pass down the pens and ink I have. Need more decent paper on hand however.

 

EDIT the post above came along as I was typing....I LOVE Perle Noire, but my results have not been as happy on cheap paper though that said Ive been using a fairly wide wet M nib.

Wow, now that is a scary thought. I have some nice pens that are definitely built to last, so that's not an issue. Of course, I'd be very very sad if the Zombie Apocalypse hit before I've replaced my Sailor ProGear and Pilot Custom 823 which were in a purse that was stolen. Ink is probably only good for 20-30 years, assuming that the preservatives hold up. That's cutting it too close for comfort. And paper... Well, I've got less than a year of paper currently.

 

So my answer is that I need to do some shopping. I've got the perfect closet in my basement for hording storage.

I'd call it "moderately wet." It has "great flow" in that it flows well, but doesn't drown the paper like some other inks do.

Perhaps for the sake of clarification, I should point out that "cheap paper" is a fairly far flung subject... my office typically uses HP Laser Jet paper and Staples pads. Contracts and more important papers are printed on Southworth laid papers... I'm not using loose-leaf notebook papers or some other bargain-basement stuff at work... so maybe I'm not the best one to give advice on the topic...

Hi all,

 

Let us not forget that zombie is a Pentagon term... the zombies will be real, living people like you or I; who are so shell-shocked and starved... they will appear to be in a zombie-like state.

 

So, if I come staggering by, I'd prefer not to have a fellow FPN'er turn my back into parchment or keep getting jabbed in the thigh for ink.

 

And I could really do without being chained to a desk... I had a former girlfriend talk me into that idea once... suffice it to say, she found it far more amusing than I did.

 

So, if you happen across a zombie,... be nice... it might be me... or someone else you know... it might even be... you.

After watching too many movies and TV shows about a group of people surviving the apocalyspe (be it zombie or otherwise) I thought this thread would be a bit of fun.

 

So what is your plan for getting and using writing supplies (paper, pens, ink, converters, etc) after the apocalypse? Are you going to scavenge them as you go or are you already planning ahead and stockpiling them? Would you even be writing in that situation or would you just be kicking butt all day? Maybe you'll use a flighter pen as weapon for hunting or self-defense, who knows?

 

Feel free to answer seriously or with humor!

Preparing for zombie apocalypse- never given it any thought. Who does?

Probably, off the top of my head I would barricade myself in a french supermarket therefore ensuring adequate supplies of comestibles and Rhodia paper in plain, lined, dot grid and seyes. Of course I would take my Wing Sung 3003 as there would be plenty of time to fix the feed issue and a Lamy Safari for times that I wish to write or draw. Then I would be all set, able to remain indefinitely and in complete comfort and luxury for the Rapture. But wait a minute - I have forgotten something - the ink.

I don’t believe in microwave ovens. I know they exist yet still I do not believe in them.

 

As we are talking fantasy I will tell you why. They are inter dimensional transporters - food is transported to another dimension, super heated there and returned. Beings of that dimension experience great mirth watching us burn our tongue as we refuse to wait six hours for the food to cool.
